  1. This. I’ve fished with Vinnie all over (including Permit in Belize). He’s an amazing guide, and a great dude. If he can’t get you in, he’ll at least point you in the right direction.
  2. The NRX I recommended is a beast of a rod. Personally a 9wt would be fine for the beach. If you need to punch it more you can size up the line or even use intermediate. A solid double haul a must of course. I do have 10wt’s, and I do use them. So you won’t go wrong if you do go that direction.
  3. NRX 9wt. Overload if need be. I alternate between several rods (depending on conditions) from 8-10wt. Loomis and Scott are great rods, but the NRX is great for the surf. if I’m sight fishing for striper, from a Skiff, I use the Scott rods. The Merdian (recently replaced by the Sector), is a beaut, and can be picked up pretty cheap(ish). Not a fan of Orvis.
