  1. I have been fishing with Alvey for about 5 years and I found them easy to maintain and fish with. There is a little learning curve with it, but with some practice and few cast you will fall in love with it as I did. Show me a reel that you can fish in the water and get the reel soaked and not ever worry about it. If drop in the sand....wash it off good in the surf and continue fishing and by the way it cost less than $300.00 for the rod and reel. Go to www.Alveyusa.com for details and you will not be disapointed.
  2. Fellow 4x4, I need some recommendations on lifting my suburban about 3". Do I want to install myself or do have 4x4 shop do it? Some recommendations for 4x4 shops in South Jersey would helpful. How much would it cost and is there legal limits when I take it get inspected. Your comments would greatly appreciated. Thanks Fishguy
  3. One important fact that is missing is the alternator. You should upgrade the alternator to incrase load requirements and the charging time when dual batteries are used. Also increase wire size if increase the alternator size. Good Luck

  5. Well Fusionstar; I would suggest Alvey 700C5 its design for large fish including sharks. I have been using mine over 3 years now and I use 20lB - 30lb Test with 50-60lb leader. I have about 400 meters of line with the capacity to go to 800 Meters easy. This will take any abuse and the drag system is excellent and simple to use. This reel has no bearings worry about and uses washers for the drag system. It is easy to maintain and its warranty is good for 5 Years unconditional. Also ...if drop in the sand, just take to the ocean rinse out couple of times and continue to fish. It is can with stand anything as long as you was it in fresh water after fishiing. Go to alveyusa.com and email Gene for a free DVD. If he does not respond, I will send you one myself. FishGuy Ps. The Alvey 700C5 and the Alvey Rod will cost you about $225.00 dollars. Also you can use braid with it. FishGuy
  6. I am in and I will send my donation to the Jeff Morris Memorial Spring Lake Kiddie Trout Tournament. Also I never had the oppotunity to meet Jeff....but he sounds like a great guy! Count me in and I will need directions from South Jersey when it happens....thanks. Look forward in meeting you all. FishGuy

  9. Susdy is correct about bottom fishing and they have all types reels for all different applications. Just got to find your reel that matches your type fishing. 10. Yes Guys...I have used Alvey Reels for the past 3 Years and have collection of 6 Alvey Surf Reels. It takes a little pactice, but once you master you will love it. It's simple concept that's been around since 1920's ( Center Pin Reel) and take any abuse you can muster. I have caught stripers, bluefish and sharks with my reels and they keep on ticking like a Timex. Simple maintenance and light oil and they work forever. Since the early 60's the Alvey Reels were some what heavy, but today's technology and design contruction its allot lighter and well balanced with the Alvey Rod or a custom rod. I have been fishing for 25+ years with many Penns and assortment of different manfactures, but the Alvey is only reel that I found to be fun to use and durable, even when I accidentlly dropped it in the sand and rinsed it in the ocean..... and continue to fish with no problems. Then I realized the value of the real and ability handle worse conditions any given day. Now I have fisherman coming by on the beach asking me to demonstrate the reel. If you have more questions, I will be glad to answer them. Fishguy
