  1. Enjoy yourself! Have friend who lives in that area and has a blast every time he goes out, fly rod only. Pretty color snook anywhere ( sunlight yellow and orange) , watch for alligators! He’s 80 and no problems with people other than weekend numbers of guys fishing and parking gets short. Inside the glades it’s wide open

I have my grandfather's boat rod. Probably 1950s.  Penn 6/0 senator with red side plates.  Rod looks to be 6ft with a roller tip. Brown fiberglass.

I want to mount it to the wall as a display  but it needs line.

What's a period correct line for this if there even is any.

My mom says he used it for tuna. But that would have put her at 5-15years old.  So who knows. There is a pic somewhere with her and a large tuna.  So it could be true.

If that is the case what lure would have been used?  Would it have had a leader?

Irish linen or any linen line. I’ve seen sections on eBay, even if only 25 ‘load reel with other lines to create affect.we used 6/0’s with used Irish linen from US Line Co. and bamboo boat rods at time.

  3. It’s been 3 months since both eyes were done. It’s common to have more sensitivity to brightness, my vision ended no glasses at all, Dr. Said  problem is the most sunglasses bounce back light from behind or on the side, I’ve always bought glasses with anti reflective inside lenses, yes like everything else there’s a menu of add on option. Buy the best you can,

  4. Years ago when fishing Keys bridges we used window sash weights on a Manila rope with rubber bands  that held the wire leader we used for grouper, jewfish , big snapper or other species depending on what you wanted and bait presented, the rope and sash was dropped behind a piling in any current and the fish ripped the rubber allowing you to fight fish with no weight.

On the south of Gasparilla Island, there are some old dock pilings that could hold fish.  I believe it's public beach there as well.

Those pilings were from phosphate docks, at one time it was the hot spot for permit. In certain season the permit and grouper are abundant there. Google in Bokeelia pier webcam , if there’s fish in the water they are there! There’s also a fish house 1/4 mile away where you purchase any bait

Gamefish status like Tarpon or Bonefish. You can fish for them but gotta release. Pretty simple. Maybe take it a step further and only can be taken on artificial lures with no barbs, kind of like a trout stream….

Eat something else. Commercial fisherman probably aren’t doing too well with Striped Bass now anyway because they are gone.

I watched the Keys make changes, huge success, photo was 1959, a skinny Raw,
