  1. This is from Jon's sister Cathy; Jon Shein's public memorial: Sunday, October 9, 2016, rain or shine, 10:00 a.m., at Beach #1 in White Meadow Lake, 100 White Meadow Road, Rockaway Township, NJ. All are welcome. Directions from Rockaway Borough, take White Meadow Avenue for less than a mile, go under Route 80, after which you will come to the fork just beyond the overpass, and the "Welcome to White Meadow Lake" sign straight ahead. Bear right onto Mountain Ave and follow for a mile or so, which then connects to White Meadow Road (town homes on the right). Soon after this point you will see a small commercial district on your right and you will cross Hibernia Road on left/Upper Mountain Ave on right, and continue on White Meadow Road. From here you are just seconds to Beach 1, which will sneak up on your left when you see a parking lot. If you reach the temple parking lot on your right/Club house on left, you just missed it. Turn around and you'll be there in a moment.
There is plenty of parking and we understand the restrooms will be open ("summer"facilities, nothing fancy). Please bring a lawnchair or beach chair and keep your attire comfy and casual--sneakers or sandals for the beach. We are not permitted to serve food or beverages, and no alcoholis permitted on the premises, but please feel free to BYO as long as it does not contain alcohol. Thank you all for your kind words, memories and condolences, and the comfort they have provided to our family. Please note the post-memorial will be private. For anyone who has asked about flowers and the like: "Since Jon's passing many folks have asked if they could send flowers or donations. The family would like donations sent in Jon's name to the NJ Chapter of Heroes on the Water. Please specify New Jersey from the drop down menu. Jon would have wanted it this way."

  3. Thanks for pinning it Tim. We are all in shock still. I will post details as the family makes them available.
  4. Guys, as soon as I know, I will post it up here.
  5. Scott, Jon is survived be his brother and sister and her husband and daughters. It is an absolute shock for sure. Like you I first got to know Jon many years ago when SOL had less than 1000 members, and have made a few trips to fish with him in Massachusetts and New York,
  6. All I know at this point is he died in his sleep.
  7. I've posted this in the Kayak Forum, but wanted to get the word out to other members who have been here since the beginning who don't frequent that forum. http://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/topic/667507-sad-news-the-passing-of-jon-shein/
  8. It is with a very heavy heart that I am passing the news on to all of you. Jon Shein, known here as Jon S passed away this afternoon at his home. Jon was the founder of this forum when Stripers Online was in its infancy. He was pivotal in the growth of the sport of Kayak Fishing, starting Kayak Fishing Stuff and getting many anglers into their first kayak Please keep his family in your prayers. Godspeed Jon, it has been an honor to know you my friend...
  9. Absolutely heartbroken...Fred had a heart as big as he was...I've enjoyed all our nightly chats, tight lines and Godspeed my friend!
  10. There have been a lot of questions as to when, or for that matter if, there is going to be a Susquehanna Flats Kayak Fishing Jamboree. The short answer is no. There are a number of issues, personal & professional, that make the planning and organization of the event for 2015 next to impossible. We would like to thank you for your support of the event and making it such a huge success. The event may be reprised in a year or two. We would like to ask all who were planning on attending to please make a donation to Heroes on the Water or volunteer your time to assist during a local event. If anyone is interested in just coming out to the Susky Flats and spending a weekend fishing, please come out the weekend of April 17-19, 2015. A bunch of us are still getting together and just going fishing for the weekend.
  11. You gotta a deal.
  12. Lou, I'll respectfully offer you $50. Heading up to pops in Stafford this Saturday night, can meet up with ya to finish deal.
  13. Ross, You're one of the uptight people that needs to pull his lower lip over his head and swallow. This sites policy has always been that posting of launches, especially puplicly funded municipal launches is allowed and always will be allowed. You're constant reporting of spot burns because someone is fishing a mile off Keyport, or south east of the point is beyond a pain in my arse. The other mods and admins will stand behind this policy as well. Please do us all a favor and leave it alone. Are you going to start bitching about Jamaica Bay and Sandy Hook being spot burns too? Get over yourself! I'm through with babysitting this forum. This sport has come a long way in the last decade, and a lot of people have joined our ranks. How about being a better ambassador of the sport, and say something positive and help someone out instead?
  14. It was my pleasure! Well, OK, there were a few times I wanted to run and hide! Seriously, thanks for coming down and being apart of it! Next year, hopefully well get some fish!
  15. Ya gotta come down next year Rob! it keeps getting better!
