  1. Hmmm....I am not sure, but I think that the mortality rate of bass would be much higher after I've shoved my hand down his throat(if I could avoid the hooks on the plug)and drug 10 feet of rope through his gills than lip gaffing. I have no idea what a boga is. where can i see a picture?
  2. a good reminder for me....I was on the north jetty at IRI a week ago on the incoming tide...fish biting....just one more... and two waves breaking over moved me....past time to go....and I left a good bite...Sorry for the family...
  3. hi to all. On my last trip there, a fellow at IRI told me that regulation now prohibited gaffing striped bass. I've always used a very thin homemade hook to lip gaff a bass too large to drag up with the leader onto the rocks. What do I use now?
  4. Wanted-9' spinning rod, fast tip, stong butt/backbone-throwing 1/4 to 1 oz. bucktails. cork "doughnut" grips, all stainless guides(no ceramic, please)Can anyone help me out?
  5. Prefer 9'...all stainless guides, no ceramic, please, cork "doughnut" grips. Light tip with backbone. Throwing light (1/4oz to 1oz) bucktails. Any custom builders willing to take on the job?
  6. warm epoxy(from behind the woodstove)thinned with a couple drops of acetone works well for me. I use the throw away watercolor brushes, too. I warm up the plug bodies behind the stove, too. I work in a fairly cold basement, and cold epoxy and wood doesn't "flow" well. With everything warm, the epoxy really penetrates the wood deeply(before paint) and as a finish coat, it flows on nice and smooth, no clumps or "drag" marks.
  7. Arrived at IRI 10:30 pm Sat. the 10th, and broke out a rod and put on my gear(creepers, rainsuit, vest) and worked the kinks out of my casting motion after that 5 hour drive. Took a break then untill the incoming tide started to move, and fished methodically and slowly for the next 4 hours.Hooked and landed nine fish,22-32 inches.Saw a lot of shooting stars. Great evening.
  8. Hi to all. say JAG, I love that quote from S.Wright. the line might be fine, but it is not invisible. And a question for Bass Blitz-is that a photo of the North end at IRI? It sure could be.The crowds of rude people don't really mean to be rude, they just don't know any better and are doing what they see others doing. My brother and I were fishing the morning incoming at IRI last May and when a couple of fish were caught we were promptly surrounded 3 deep. I just remained squatted by the water, where I had just landed a couple for my brother and I, and watched the show. Granted, that was a Saturday, and I should know better, but I am a slow learner.

Hi to Plug and Charlie M, and thanks again for the plug swap last year.I didn't even know of this web site at the time of last falls' fling at IRI, but met some of the guys there Friday night, and Tony Hill told me about the site Saturday morning. I'll be there about 1600 hours Friday if the traffic is not held up around the D.C. beltway, and I'll check in at the pavillion in the North side lot, Plug, and lend a hand if I can.
  10. a friend gave me a piece of amazon wood he called eppe. it is very dark, very dense, very strong. I've been making some darters out of it, using it for the bottom half of the plug, and cedar for the top half. I make a shallow saw cut in both pieces, epoxy them together, and use the saw cut for the thru wire.
  11. Hi to all. I'm glad I checked the board, I'd love to attend, and meet the gurus of cedar.
  12. I'd like to nominate Guzz and Charlie as co-coordinators
  13. hi guys, My first trip to Maine, flew in to Portland the 27th, drove north as far as Camden. What a beautiful area, and great fishing, too.hooked up with 10 or 12 bass 20-26 inches, all on 1/2 oz jig head dressed with a pearl shad asssasin, at Popham Beach on Friday afternoons' rising tide.
  14. hi, cool Good luck with those plugs, and thanks for the wonderful teasers. I just got back from a quick trip to Maine, flew up Wed., 27th, and back today. Caught 10 or 12 bass 20-26 inches at the mouth of the Kennebec River, near Popham Beach, on a 1/2 oz. jig head with a pearl white shad assasin. My first time in Maine, what a beautiful area.
  15. Arrived the 8th at IRI, stripers surfaced on the incoming tide for 5 minutes and fed in a spot 5 yards wide Fri. evening and Sat. morning, a total of 12 fish caught, by about 300 guys throwing blue and white poppers, looked like a massive blue fish frenzy, and I remembered why I hadn't been to IRI in the summer in 15yrs or so.I hooked one fish Sat. morning and lost it after about 30 seconds, on a hopkins spoon.I looked around then, and was surrounded by guys rushing in and crowding, 3 and 4 deep, throwing over 2 and 3 guys in front of them. Fearing for my life, I squated between the rocks and watched the show. Amazing!!
