  1. oooh they’ve been here, I was once bumped by something very VERY large swimming through an area on the S/SE side. Have also seen a lot of sand tigers in recent years.
  2. I feel like being someone that swims at night 4-5 days a week six months out of the year has their chances MUCH higher than the average odd. I’ve thought about attaching a line to my eel bucket before but the logistics of neatly carrying 300 feet of line around seems a little tough, is this something you do? I’d love to see your set up if so.
  3. Hey Guys - To be perfectly honest, I have a huge fear of sharks. This hasn’t stopped me from fishing off the shore on the rocks in a wetsuit the past five years. However, I just can’t shake the bad feelings a lot of the times when standing on a rock alone up to my knees with a bag of eels hanging off me more often then not. This never stops me from going out, but on frequent occasions it’ll stop me from staying out as long as I’d prefer at night and try to swim back to shore at record speed. I realize this comes with the territory, but curious if anyone has been in the same boat before that has found a way to make themselves feel better about it.
  4. yes, I guess I’m having trouble understanding the need for different water levels. Every video/resource I’ve read I’ve noticed that everyone has the water relatively shallow
  5. From my understanding I'm seeing most places and people are storing eels in less water to provide better O2 ingress in the water, maybe I'm wrong.
  6. I kind of figured this but figured I'd come here to put my mind at ease, thanks for the response. I'd say I have actually around 1' between the eels and water surface, probably 12-15 gallons of water in general in there.
  7. Thanks for the reply SC - Having really no experience, I guess I'm concerned about the amount of eels stored in such a small area, they're basically all laying on the bottom & ontop of eachother clustered in a 55 gallon drum. I'm starting to worry that I'm storing too many eels in the drum for long term storage.
  8. Hey Everyone - Over the winter I decided to invest in a 55 gallon drum set up with two aerators running to store bulk eels. Well today I decided to purchase 20 pounds of eels and I may have under estimated how many eels I should really put in this thing. They're all kind of laying ontop of eachother with about 2 feet of water above them. Is this going to kill them? Surely someone else has made this mistake before... thanks in advance!
  9. Hey guys - My newly built epoxy spinner on a rotisserie motor happened to have the rod fall off the rotating motor. It didn’t come with a set screw for it, do some people glue them in to prevent this? sadly a bunch of metal lips had come all this way just like I wanted until this dilemma. They all have high sag spots from stopping rotating early in the drying stage. now I know to wait and sand these down, but how should do this process without sanding too much of the other spots & prepping for another coat? Thanks in advance!
  10. On the same subject, For the past couple years I apply epoxy post assembly. I tried to epoxy a set of plugs pre assembly with this method but ended of getting the wires stuck in 8 plugs. How do you guys apply epoxy pre assemble where you’re able to have enough leeway to take the through wire out and slide your swivel in after it’s done on the spinner?
  11. Hey Guys - I’d love to see some work of people that like to specialize in big plugs (8”+). I haven’t done anything to crazy besides 8” pikies out of standard cut stock but i’d love to see what some people do with 4” x 4” stock.
  12. Also should note - using a hand drill with forstner bits
  13. Hey Guys - Been building for about two seasons now, the one thing I can’t seem to figure out is how to consistently line up my holes. Currently I have been using a speed square to mark the middle of my plug on both sides and line it up and pencil down. Am I just sloppy at this and need to take my time? Or is there a simple jig I can build/other way to do this to make this more accurate. Thanks in advance!
  14. Hey guys - i like to build (and sometimes catch fish) on some large metal lips by normal standards (5oz, 8”-10”). For this use I usually use a Pikie 4 lip. I came across some 4”x4” AYC that I would love to turn into some truly large lures. However I am not aware of any commercially available lips available for purchase. After using the search function I found similar questions in the past that pointed to no available lips on the market and to make my own lips, however these posts were dated. Is there currently a place to purchase larger lips? Cheers!
