  1. My go-to is the Airflo Kelly Galloup streamer max long. They rate it as 6/7. I works great on my IMX pro 6 and my Sage X 7. If you have a reel or spool for a dedicated sink tip I highly recommend trying this line. YMMV but for most sink tip applications, it kills. I'm sure the Rio is just fine too, and I use many of the floating lines, but the Airflo is fantastic and worth every penny (not cheap, but what lines are these days?).
  2. And yes if you have enough spool and reel options a floating line, especially early or late in the day can be a blast with a popper.
  3. Your fishing environ is key. For me a sink tip is better day after day. Unless you're fishing in super skinny water (the fly will still sink with floro) a sink line is way more productive. NE and FL are very different but I wouldn't hesitate to use a sinking line up there. You might be surprised especially if you're using streamers, big buggers, bait patterns, etc.. What's kind of cool is that stripping these patterns can trigger a strike with bass because the sink tip forces the fly to sink head down. Then with a strip, "boom". I use a section of 7-9' floro and that's it. For the trout a taper might be in order but it still works. It's a constant experiment for sure, which I actually enjoy.
  4. As one poster mentioned there are obviously a lot of variables. I do a lot of this type of fishing and I really like the Airflo Kelly Galloup streamer max long. It's a sink tip but not clunky and turns over larger flies well, casts big poppers with ease and being in FL I use in the deeper channels and cuts and it works well. Just an all-around fantastic line. I use the 6/7 on my IMX Pro 6wt which is pretty moderate in action (by today's standards). I'm not familiar with the Powell rod but with an adjusted casting pace I imagine you could get most lines in that grain range to perform and might even be better if your casting larger flies. Of course the disclaimer YMMV. The versitip idea isn't bad I just like less connection points if possible so I have a dedicated reel just for this...but for me in FL it makes sense. Pond/ditch fishing is a big part of what we do here.
  5. Snook on the beach in FLA!
  6. I would use a gel based lacquer remover so you can control the application. Once removed use a good epoxy an high quality brush to refinish. Take your time!
  7. In drop some zap a gap between tying the top and bottom. Never have any problems regardless of the other tying factors on barbells or beadchain. Keep the wraps tight!
