  1. All the tails I acquired were natural undyed deer tails and I sold them the same way. Danny used them for his plug tail hooks. When I used them for myself I used them white for striped bass jigs. I actually have some of the jigs that I used back then currently for sale in the buy/sell forum. They weren't paying much for deer hides at the time. Whenever we brought hides in to sell one fur buyer would pay either $5 - $7 per hide or a new pair of suede deerskin gloves and we always chose the gloves instead of the cash.
  2. Larger double hook version.
  3. Whale bone jigs.
  4. I supplied Danny Pichney with deer tails for a while. I was heavy into hunting and trapping at the time and knew several fur buyers in the Catskills that I dealt with. I would pick up tails for about .50 or so a piece by the hundreds and I sold them for $1.00 to Danny, local tackle shops, etc. But Danny actually never paid me for them because I always had plug orders with him that he would subtract the amount from. The tails were usually deboned and dried. I recall one time I had a batch that was not dry, they were salted and still soft and sort of smelled a bit but Danny still took them.
  5. In the 1970's and early 80's I was paying $3.25 for Danny Pichney plugs and $3.75 for Don Musso plugs direct from the makers. And I was not paying much more than that for store bought Gibbs , Danny Lupo, or Goo Goo eye plugs. The most expensive plugs I purchased back then were Creek Chub Striper and Giant Pikies for about $5.95 and I purchased them only because I knew that they were no longer being made. It didn't make sense to spend a fortune on plugs back in the day because Danny could make anything I wanted for about $3.25.
  6. The originals were homemade plugs, it was not commercialized until Danny got hold of it. What's important is the provenance and I'm sure the people that own originals know the history of their particular plugs.
  7. Yes, there seems to be a few large size bootlegs out there. I personally didn't purchase large size bootlegs from Danny and I almost didn't purchase his regular Jr. size bootlegs either until one time when it was the only style plug catching fish. I guess I am a traditionalist and stick with what works - Conrads from Danny and Torpedo's from Don. I didn't see a reason to get Danny's interpretation of a Donny Torpedo when he first came out with it. Although, I did have and I tried a couple of the bootleg Jrs. at first but they didn't swim like a Torpedo and stayed at or near the surface. They actually didn't have much of a swimming action at all probably due to the small narrow lip. But there was a period of time and it lasted for quite a while, when the bootlegs were the only plugs catching fish on the out going tide, and when reeled in very slow. The plugs were coming in like arrows but that's what the bass were looking for. I imagine that it was because of sand eels coming out of the bay on the out going tide. After this episode I started to order many Jr. size bootlegs and in different colors.
  8. This looks to be a Danny Pichney made plug. Only a more accurate representation of a Don Musso Torpedo.
  9. But the lure pictured above does not look like a Danny to me.
  10. Steve: There are some large size bootlegs out there. I never purchased any from Danny and actually didn't recall that he made them. But I have seen pictures, Roy put up a picture of a one.
  11. I never said that Don didn't paint it, I said that it is Danny's green paint and not Don's. But since we are on the subject, I think that most collectors know the story of this Mackerel Pikie style plug by now; that the bodies were made by someone else. My feeling is this: if they were painted by Don then they were probably done in Danny's basement. From what I understand Don was an apprentice of Danny in the early days.
  12. Well, if you are referring to the green paint. No, it's Danny's green color. It's the same green as all the other plugs I acquired from Danny that had green in them. It is not Don's green. If you are referring to the black Mackerel line pattern then that's another story.
  13. Some Mackerel plugs.
  14. $535 for all four.
  15. I have these three new Don Musso sub surface pine Torpedo Jr's and a Rattler. All are new and purchased from Don in the 70's-80's.. $145 each shipped. $125 for the White one.
  16. I noticed this discussion regarding the Danny Pichney conrad. Even Danny's conrad varied. Different weights, different shapes, etc. His plugs had variations from one year to another and even from one batch to another. Some had thicker/thinner tails, others had flatter or more rounded fronts. They didn't all swim the same. I had some that would not swim very deep at all and I would need to fish them accordingly. But they all worked in one scenario or another.
  17. Original vintage Creek Chub Bait Co. Garrett, Indiana Striper Strike Popper Blue Flash #2234 (1 OZ.) 3 for $40 shipped - must purchase minimum of 3 12 available - all mint in original boxes.
  18. I am not too political but found this interesting. Received from a friend. " From a friend: info from several of the lawyers from my whatsapp group: Ok in a nutshell. This is going to the Supreme Court. Where they will rule that the election is invalid due to fraud or mistakes on a country wide scale. It will go one of two ways, either they will rule that all the unconstitutional mail in ballots will be removed and the states ordered to recount without them or they will simply rule the election is invalid due to mass voter fraud and at that point it will be sent to the congress and senate for a vote. This is where it gets good. The house/congress votes on who the President will be. It has nothing to do with what party that has power. Every State gets one vote and 30 States are held by Republicans and 19 by Democrats. They have to vote down party lines, they have no choice due to the 12th Amendment of the Constitution and the Senate votes for the Vice President where a similar event will take place. This is The law. This is why the Democrats are so mad at Nancy Pelosi. This will all happen in January. The only way President Trump won’t be President is if he concedes the election and that will never happen So stop watching the fake news and don’t let your heart be troubled and live your life knowing this will all work out. President Trump will remain President. I have researched all of this and it is Fact! Another fun fact, they called Gore the President Elect for 30 days in 2000 until the courts ruled against him and declared Bush the winner. And two people that were part of that decision were none other than new Supreme Court Justices, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Why do you think the Democrats tried so hard to keep them from being confirmed. Any Validity?????? "
  19. Yes, looks like a Don Musso Torpedo.
  20. This particular lure came out of a NFLCC auction a couple of decades ago, I have the paperwork. This was placed up for auction by Trygve Lund (well known honorary NFLCC member) who worked for the big lure companies back in the day. I picked up this lure as well as a few others that went up for sale at that auction.
  21. Here's a rare experimental Pflueger Ballerina in a large Musky/Saltwater size. Much fatter and longer than a standard Ballerina. It is also thru-wired with one belly swivel/hook.
  22. I uploaded the following photo's in another Mustang topic in the Main forum. I imagine they can be useful here also. This is a thru-wired prototype I have which was done at the Pflueger factory in 1954.
  23. I'm going to hold on to the business card, thanks.
