  1. I will be going fishing on my vacation to the Carribean and am taking my fishing gear to fish from the beach. I have a rod I am thinking about taking as I always fish lighter tackle but also take a heavier setup just in case. I only plan to use artificials and have an assortment of rapalas, kastmasters, mirrolures, bucktails and many others. The lighter setup is going to be an ugly stik gx2 which will be good for throwing the smaller lures and I also have larger 2 oz spoons that I plan to also try. The rod I have in mind for the heavier setup is a medium-heavy fast action but the tip is kind of heavy, it barely bends when I put 2 oz weights on it, does this mean that it is too heavy to cast lures and I need to buy a rod with a slightly lighter tip or can it still be used? Any advice would be appreciated.
  2. I have tried practicing multiple types of line to line knots but can’t seem to get them. Since I can’t tie them good enough, I thought about just tying my lure directly to the main line which is 12# mono. Has anyone ever fished for Spanish and blues with no leader at all?
  3. I will be going to a Carolina pier to try for blues and Spanish. Does anyone know which is best between a mono leader and flouro leader? How heavy does the leader have to be so they won’t bite the lure off? Any info would be appreciated.
  4. I am going fishing at a lake soon and had some questions about a reel. I recently purchased a new spinning reel with a 6.2:1 gear ratio and it is now the fastest reel I have. I will be using lures and know that for saltwater, it is impossible to reel “too fast”. Does this go for freshwater as well?
  5. When do spanish and blues show up in the Carolinas. I plan to go fishing during my spring break in April and want to try to catch Spanish and blues.
  6. I am new to this website and I do a lot of pier and surf fishing in the summer. I have an 8 ft med/hvy coastal tuff spinning rod that I bought a couple of years ago and I’m planning to start back using it again. I want to use it to cast big spoons when pier and surf fishing. It is rated for 30-50 lb line. When I get a good reel to go with it, I plan to put 20 or 25 lb mono on it, will this effect the performance of the setup since the line I want to use is under the rating or will it have no effect? If anyone can share some info, then I would appreciate it!
