    12wt reel

Since I started this thread about four years ago I have purchased an Abel SDS 11/12 sold that and then purchased a Mako 9600.
  2. I've had them on the beach even in February. The above fish was caught on an EP Micro Minnow.
  3. Fishing the troughs along the beach early morning or in the evenings can be very productive for snook. It can be a very frustrating way to fish but also productive in the right conditions.

    T&T Sextant

I have a T&T 10 weight paired with a Mako 9550 and an 11 weight with a 9600. They are my go to Tarpon set ups and I really like them. Hoping to chase some laid up Tarpon in a couple months and put them to the test once again.
  5. Centaur rods are and American company based on Long Island. The owner Raymond used to work for Sami at Saltywater. Definitely worth taking a look at.
  6. Not really crowded for two people and a normal amount of gear. I have also carried a coffin box and two dozen decoys with no problem. I love the boat. If you’re on LI I’ll be more than happy to show it to you.
  7. I would work it very fast on top of the water. Work the rod like a pencil popper but change the speed to very fast.
  8. I have fished there several times and the best producing lure for Roosters is the Roberts Ranger. Chrome and white seemed to work the best for me.
  9. How did the trip turn out? Where did you fish?
  10. If I had a limited budget but wanted the best value for the money, that’s what I would be looking at. Pair that up with a Centaur or other value priced rod is a great place to start.
  11. If your looking for a mid-ranged price set up, take a look at the Shimano Twin Power 14000. It retails for about $650 and is a great reel.
  12. Fished out of Everglades City this past week while staying in Naples. Had a bunch of Snook and a few baby Tarpon on fly to finish the day. The first half of the day was some of the most amazing fishing I have ever experienced. Water temps are above the magic 75 degree mark and there are some big fish willing to eat!
  13. I fished Tigertail last June in the evening after Tarpon fishing during the day. I caught a ton of small Jacks and saw a giant Snook swimming 5 feet from the beach. Most guys were wade fishing knee deep and this snook was between them and the beach. Unfortunately I couldn't get him to take a fly. I also walked the beaches of Naples in the evening and saw a ton of smaller Snook in the trough. Definitely worth bringing the rods and giving it a go.
  14. That’s not always true. Both times I’ve been down, we arranged to fly into San Jose by 1pm and then had an afternoon flight to the coast. Same on the way home. Early flight from the coast to San Jose and then flights back to NYC.
