Heading to montauk next weekend. Anyone know of anywhere i can find up to date info on the striper migration? Or better yet, is anyone currently fishing there and having luck with striper action? Anything i have found online has been from the spring migration or older. Thanks for any info.

Update; thanks for all the tips guys, i ended up tying about 15 flies for today and only lost 2. Got 2 trout total 1 on a pink squirmy wormy and 1 on a pink bead egg with flouresant pink dubbing. Tried fiddling around with other assorted flies but i guess pink was the choice for today. These were stocked trout so im still going to keep up with trying to land myself a wild brown or brook trout in the following weeks. Thanks again!

Hey guys, last year i finally bought a fly set up and started tying my own flies. So far I've caught 2 trout this past spring on some bright green flies that i tied as a joke and put it on when my “caddis flies” weren't producing any bites. Now its fall and im fishing the nj area in the flatbrook river and rivers near it, and areas in roscoe ny. I went out last weekend to roscoe and in 3 days didnt catch a thing. So my question is for the north eastern area for trout fishing, what flies and hook sizes would you recommend i use? These areas have stocked rainbow trout but im more so interested in trying to hook into a wild brown or brook trout. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Just got it last season, never used an anchor before that but no i didnt even notice that loop at the base until you just mentioned it, would have been helpful to have that info under the rocky bridge when the water was almost 8’ high and i almost flipped trying to get unstuck. Thanks for the tip!

Anyone catching stripers in the nj surf yet? Id so how big? Any pics?

I use this same style in a 3lb weight on my kayak and it holds my kayak even in the Delaware rivers rapids areas currents with no issue, just can be a pain in the ass to get back up some times if its wedged really good.

Thought this community was supposed to be about helping each other... if you dont want to help, dont respond to the post its pretty simple, but im thankful for those who are willing to help.

Thanks for all the replys on this thread, it is much appreciated... as far as spot burning goes, i dont really believe in such a thing. Just my personal opinion. Majority of water ways are open to the public and helping a fellow fisherman have a good day on the water is a solid good deed in my book, especially if youre helping that person follow through with one of their dreams. I have taken alot of friends to spots i know have good hook up rates, and plenty of people have taken me to good spots to fish as well. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming season!

Hey guys, i am trying to land a snake head this season. I have never caught one before and they look awesome and i bet they put up a nice fight. I live in northern nj, around the ringwood area, can anyone confirm any snake heads in this area or near by? Was also hoping to find these beasts in a lake rather than a river if you have any info you dont mind sharing it would be much appreciated, im a catch and release all day type of guy so ill be popping those trophys right back in to catch another day no worries about me hacking the heads off. Guten Tag! Youre a bit out of the way but if youre ever in north nj i can show you some great spots. This past trout season wasnt great but lake fishing near me is always solid. Im sure the water ways near you have alot of good stuff just a matter of varying the tackle and finding what works best on each day. Sometime the fish here kill my keitechs and somedays they prefer flashy spinners. The delaware river is great for kayaking and fishing and if you want to get into stripers take a look into a visit to montauk ny in the spring or fall for the striper runs. Youll need some good equipment if you go but its insanity. My instagram is mattymofukinice dm me if you ever are in the north nj area.

Take a look at the ugly stick gx2 rod. It comes in many different sizes and also comes in 1 piece or 2 piece even comes in a 4 piece. I have a few myself i love using them because theyre dirt cheap at only $40 and damn near unbreakable! Theres a youtube video of a guy trying to break one and he give the rod a beating until it finally give in after he attatches it to a go kart racing down hill. If youre not sold on that, tsunami makes great quality rods that are also a good price point.
