  1. Hey guys, im finally geared up as best as i can be for my first trip to montauk. Hoping i picked a good week to take some time off of work and get some action. Ill be there for 5 days and was just curious if you guys could recommend a few good spots to eat breakfast and dinner as well as a few bars i should check out.
  2. Heading to montauk next weekend. Anyone know of anywhere i can find up to date info on the striper migration? Or better yet, is anyone currently fishing there and having luck with striper action? Anything i have found online has been from the spring migration or older. Thanks for any info.
  3. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Hopefully the striper bite is on when im there, if its not, ill be at the bars getting hammered.

  9. Hey guys, last year i finally bought a fly set up and started tying my own flies. So far I've caught 2 trout this past spring on some bright green flies that i tied as a joke and put it on when my “caddis flies” weren't producing any bites. Now its fall and im fishing the nj area in the flatbrook river and rivers near it, and areas in roscoe ny. I went out last weekend to roscoe and in 3 days didnt catch a thing. So my question is for the north eastern area for trout fishing, what flies and hook sizes would you recommend i use? These areas have stocked rainbow trout but im more so interested in trying to hook into a wild brown or brook trout. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
  10. Update; thanks for all the tips guys, i ended up tying about 15 flies for today and only lost 2. Got 2 trout total 1 on a pink squirmy wormy and 1 on a pink bead egg with flouresant pink dubbing. Tried fiddling around with other assorted flies but i guess pink was the choice for today. These were stocked trout so im still going to keep up with trying to land myself a wild brown or brook trout in the following weeks. Thanks again!
  11. Thanks for the tips ill give it a shot sunday hopefully i get 1 or 20
  12. Anyone catching stripers in the nj surf yet? Id so how big? Any pics?
  13. Just got it last season, never used an anchor before that but no i didnt even notice that loop at the base until you just mentioned it, would have been helpful to have that info under the rocky bridge when the water was almost 8’ high and i almost flipped trying to get unstuck. Thanks for the tip!
  14. I use this same style in a 3lb weight on my kayak and it holds my kayak even in the Delaware rivers rapids areas currents with no issue, just can be a pain in the ass to get back up some times if its wedged really good.
  15. Hey guys, i am trying to land a snake head this season. I have never caught one before and they look awesome and i bet they put up a nice fight. I live in northern nj, around the ringwood area, can anyone confirm any snake heads in this area or near by? Was also hoping to find these beasts in a lake rather than a river if you have any info you dont mind sharing it would be much appreciated, im a catch and release all day type of guy so ill be popping those trophys right back in to catch another day no worries about me hacking the heads off. Thanks!
  16. Thought this community was supposed to be about helping each other... if you dont want to help, dont respond to the post its pretty simple, but im thankful for those who are willing to help.
  17. What can i say, im a rebel
  18. Thanks for all the replys on this thread, it is much appreciated... as far as spot burning goes, i dont really believe in such a thing. Just my personal opinion. Majority of water ways are open to the public and helping a fellow fisherman have a good day on the water is a solid good deed in my book, especially if youre helping that person follow through with one of their dreams. I have taken alot of friends to spots i know have good hook up rates, and plenty of people have taken me to good spots to fish as well. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming season!
  19. Hey guys, with being very over worked during this pandemic, im thinking about finally splurging and getting myself a trolling motor for lake fishing for the upcoming season. Im tired of using all my energy to paddle instead of fish and pound beers. I have never used a trolling motor so im open to suggestions but heres my thoughts so far on the research ive done. i have a bonafide ss107 and with me, the yak, and my gear were looking at about 310lbs of weight. I was looking at a torqueedo but i dont see myself dropping $3000 on a trolling motor set up. Hoping to get a decent set up for $1000 or less. i have done some research and im leaning towards a minn kota endura max 55, with a DAKOTA LITHIUM 12V 54AH battery. And as far as housing the battery im not sure yet. I figure all together that would put my total weight around 350lbs. Im hoping this setup will get me around 3 hours of run time at 3/4 speed. If anyone uses this set up or something similar and can give me any insight if this is a good choice or if theres better options please let me know. Wont be purchasing anything til march so i have time to take all opinions into consideration. Thanks for any input and advice.
  20. Guten Tag! Youre a bit out of the way but if youre ever in north nj i can show you some great spots. This past trout season wasnt great but lake fishing near me is always solid. Im sure the water ways near you have alot of good stuff just a matter of varying the tackle and finding what works best on each day. Sometime the fish here kill my keitechs and somedays they prefer flashy spinners. The delaware river is great for kayaking and fishing and if you want to get into stripers take a look into a visit to montauk ny in the spring or fall for the striper runs. Youll need some good equipment if you go but its insanity. My instagram is mattymofukinice dm me if you ever are in the north nj area.
  21. Take a look at the ugly stick gx2 rod. It comes in many different sizes and also comes in 1 piece or 2 piece even comes in a 4 piece. I have a few myself i love using them because theyre dirt cheap at only $40 and damn near unbreakable! Theres a youtube video of a guy trying to break one and he give the rod a beating until it finally give in after he attatches it to a go kart racing down hill. If youre not sold on that, tsunami makes great quality rods that are also a good price point.
  22. Thats a nice set up! Me and a few friends go on 2, week long fishing/camping trips down the delaware river each year so i thought the kayak would be better suited for the sometimes very shallow waters. We did a 26 mile river trip last year and im happy with the performance of the bonafide as well as the comfort. That $99 price point is alot better that the $300 for the minn kota, and as far as the #55 thrust goes, my thought was to get a larger thrust power in hopes that i wouldnt need to push the motor to its max and be able to get a longer run time out if the battery. Speed isnt a concern of mine, any propulsion from a motor is going to be faster than i can paddle, its mainly to get me To the opposite ends of some of the larger lakes in NJ. So from what im gathering from your response is, a lower # thrust would actually be more of what im looking for, as in, it wont use as much juice in operation as the #55 thrust... all the # thrust talk and the battery lingo has me kind of lost. I have no idea how to translate how many hours of use a 54 ah lithium battery should be good for. Just hoping to get at least 3 hours of use per charge. Anything more would be great but if worse come to worse my paddle is always right there too.
  23. Hey guys, the this fall season i have finally got a fly fishing set up. I have never been fly fishing and wanted to get into it so i splurged and got myself a water works lamson guru reel, a temple forks outfitters rod and a spool of rio line and handful of flies the guy at a local shop recommended. I watched probably 10+ hours of videos on how to properly fly fish and armed with all that i still got stuck in plenty of shrubbery on my first outing, but thats normal for me anyway even with my spinning rod as i fish heavily wooded areas. That bring said i had a great time and somewhat got the hang of it after fishing a few hours and i cant wait to get back out there and give it another go. I saw plenty of trout in the water but nothing i was using seemed to peak an interest from them. Everything i threw was size 16, 18, and 20 hooks. A few different sinking types and a few different floating types and the guy at the shop said if nothing is working heres a magic lure and handed me a red rubbery worm. Anyway ill keep trying my luck but the question i have is can someone tell me a few floating and sinking types i should be fishing with for NJ trout at this time of year? And if so, does the same list apply for spring? Not sure if the guy at the fly shop was giving me gold or just the crap no one else wanted. Thanks for the input!
  24. Thanks ill grab some and try my luck this week!
