"It is kind of sad. No Virginia hooks. No Lami fiberglass telephone pole. No 60# mono reeled up using a clothesline pulley. The old ways left behind. They truly paved paradise and put up a parking lot." All still part of the arsenal guys.....But 15 ft of water on the Cape....This is the choice of weaponry.

Guys: Any out there that A) Wont Break the bank.. b) Are not overgrown pool toys? My Friend lives on a private lake community and is looking for a kayak that will be used 90+% of the time in a lake.....If he launches in salt it would be on the inside (Raritan or Jamaica Bay). Budget is in the 500-600 dollar range. Any suggestions

Shimano Torium....Only got 10 cod trips before it turned into a pile of galvanic corrosion...rusted fron the inside out. despite cleaning and lubrication, nothing could stop it...even T-9 Boushield. Paint on the frame bubbled... Torium=Japanese for Corrosion And the crazy Dartanium drags (40 bucks to replace) crumbles it looks like pencil Lead So. Dartanium = Japanese for Pencil Lead

I already know he is a good capt but wanted to know more about the fishing. Does he like channels deep water or is he obsessed with the grizzle like the big Mo.

Any one fish them on a regular basis?? What is or like ....does he prefer channels or does he sped a lot of time fishing the grizzle like the Big Mohawk. Does the boat tend to get crowded?? He seems to catch his share of big fish and I don't of them see him hunkered in with the fleet. Kinda does his own thing. It's a big boat. I have fished him for blackfish and kind of gave up because the boat is so big u could never predict who what or where the bites we're gonna be. He really knows his bottom...but the boat is an aircraft carrier. When the fish set up in the current your doomed if you are out of the game. But fluking is a drifting game so ...was thinking of trying him out. Anyone have experiece?

So what U do is go to home depot,,,get a clay saucer that fits into the top of the pan. Line the pan with Foil and the saucer too....Helps to hold temp and you dont need to fuss with water...less messy to clean up. Folks do this with the WSM. Chicken comes out better...the skin used to be gooey with water in the pan. The Clay acts as a heat deflector much mike folks do on the green egg. Works like a charm and its yet anoter ECB Mod. Will know after the next cook. U can fill in the gap with twisted foil. Gonna see if this works to get a longer burn. When I did PorK Shoulder all I did was wait till it got to WARM....then....I lifter the smoker off the pan and added a fresh load of coals....You dont need a second pan. So long as you catch it with a dozen or so live embers. Less you peek the better.....If your lookin you aint cookin

My Take is that the vent on top is totally useless unless you have sealed and vented the firebox and lid. I started out using a weber smokey joe as a fire box becasuse of the vent...and even with the vents totally closed and using the minion method it burned too fast. no more than 4 hrs with a huge pan of coals. So I Modded the existing charcoal pan with 5 holes and made legs from threaded rod. (8"). I also went the clay saucer route. Temperature is no longer an issue and cleanup is a snap if I foil the water pan and clay saucer. Was thinking of adding a fireplace cord to close the gap in the lid....but with a twist... A Weber style vent gives you 1.3 Sq In of vent fully open. So what if you install the gasket and leave ~6" as is....that would give you the same draft as a vent. (6" x 0.25"=1.5) and its a whole lot easier. Like I said before may have so much draft that its a mute point. I will know after the next cook...If I could get 7 hrs with the modified pan I may just stop....this way at 6 hr intervals I can just lift the smoker body and dump in fresh charcoal. How many Hrs do u get on a full pan of lump charcoal with the modded pan and existing lid with 1/4" gap?

Been keepin things sl to the left of IDEAL for a long time...LOL....Make any Mods?

Thats why I do only 1 hr in foil.....2 hrs too Much Time in Foil and they start to fall apart. ....You can even Skip the Foil if you watch the fire....is that an ECB??

I have tbe same problem even with 12 ounce jigs and 65# braid. It's not an issue of tention. I have pulled 30 lb cod through 300 ft of water and the extra tention doesn't help. The jig goes down braid ticking and grabbing along tbe way. If anything it gets worse after a good fish.
