  1. Sent it in. Waiting to hear back...
  2. Sent it to the repair shop at Bean. I talked to the guy in the fly shop in Freeport. He said they keep extra sections and may charge per section. Hope for the best. Thanks.
  3. I broke it today. This was a very nice rod. It sells for ~$400-500. I have no clue about getting it replaced. I never would have got this without a warranty. I contacted LL Bean. They want me to send it in to see if they can fix it. Lol...
  4. Hitting this river for a few days next week. Does anyone have pattern recommendations? I imagine any hatches would be spotty? Thanks
  5. Cabela's has a great box for larger stuff. It's double sided and transparent so you can see everything. Very well made also- perfect for a sling. ~$25.
  6. Articulated flies like the Kelly Galloup ones are lethal on smallies. I like the Peanut Envy ( basically 2 Wolly buggers) in various colors and weighting schemes. Weight-free or lightly weighted flies on a sinking line or heavier flies on a floater for sub-surface fishing.
  7. A size 1 I think. 20lb loop with the standard length of making the mono hole in the strip with the hook after tied in. These are really fun flies to tie and fish.
  8. Here's a Squid-sickle with a magnum strip and a 40lb piece of mono tied on top of hook then through the magnum strip around 2 body lengths back. The mono is crimped at the pass through point and tied back on top of the hook. You can see where the strip is supported just aft of the eyes. The eyes are melted, then UV'd onto 2 pieces of 80lb. Hook is 4/0. This is a great teaser size.
  9. Looks like Steven Lynch is the only Yay vote out of my state. Surprisingly the 2 RI reps went Nay.
  10. Trout flies smaller than the eyes on my saltwater streamers are often too big.
  11. Dead drift is a loosely used term. To me it is drifting in a manner that is consistent with the creatures ability to move. A baitfish will make darting motions yet, be at the mercy of the current. A salmon egg does not move slower, faster or across a current. The fish know this.
  12. Dead drift is cast across or a little down current and mended allowing the fly to sink with no drag with occasional strips and/or feeding line downstream. When line is tight I will just hold rod with the tip a foot or 2 off the water and let the fly swing to directly downstream with occasional strips, wiggles, twitches and such. The exact same as swinging a wet fly for trout. If you are swinging by a spot you think is fishy looking lift up on the line so the fly rises in that zone. Called the Leisenring lift to imitate an emerging insect. Using a streamer it just draws attention to your fly. Joe Humphreys has some excellent videos.
  13. Not sure. I think they both may be ‘soft hackle’ types. I fish these as I would an Orange and Partridge for trout. Dead drift, mend/twitch, swing/twitch...
  14. Been tying 12-18's so long these feel like working on an airplane. Should be swimming in CC bay next week.
