  1. MoCo Outback Yesterday Afternoon 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM Hit 2 spots in the back yesterday afternoon. Not the timeframe that I prefer, but if I can get out... I'll go and take a shot. The wind was blowing SSE around 10 to 15 and made just enough waves to make it difficult to tell if there was bait present. First spot had some pretty dirty water and lots of weeds. Very few casts came back without some amount of seaweed But through the waves I was able to spot pods of adult bunker tail slaping on the surface. that was the only thing that kept me there almost an hour. Moved to another spot that had calm water that was clean. I was able to see some small schools of spearing and some schools of small peanuts. Unfortunately this spot had lots of seaweed too. Very few casts came back with being fouled by seaweed. I figured if I could get a small part of my retrieve without getting fouled by weeds I might have a chance. Anyway it seemed pretty dead there too so gave up after about an hour.. Skunked ....
  2. That is one nasty looking wound, these fish pretty tough ...
  3. I'm not onto that many fish, Think I just had some bad luck with the clip
  4. I'm going to have to try that
  5. Just my luck ...
  6. I was using a Palomar knot and that was on 50# Mono Leader
  7. I had the same thing happen to me. I just started using those clips recently. Lost too many plugs from using snaps. It was weird to reel in an just see the knot at the end of my leader with no clip. Does anybody have a solution for the clips sliding off the knot additionally I have noticed that the split ring on the swarters are a PIA with these clips. Do you guys take the split ring off the swarters
  8. Not a good omen for the future of the Bluefish population ....
  9. Me too ... I grew up in Perth Amboy on Sciorintino's Pizza with Meatballs and Onions ... Never had a bad pie from them
  10. If your in South Amboy, you should try Sciorintinos Harbour Lights. My favorite pizza .....
  11. 10 ft Aerial Star rated for 2-5 oz lures. Penn Battle 6K loaded with 30# Jbraid. Although I was using my Steelhead rod with a Penn Clash2 4K for the first fish, afterwards switched over to the Aerial Star and Penn 6K ... I can always tighten down the drag some more if I wanted to, but I don't like to have my drag too tight....
  12. Late report from Last night MoCo outback 9:00 PM to 1:20 AM Light Variable Breeze shifting from SE to NE and back. Glassy water with some small baitfish dimpling the surface of the water. The smell of Bunker was in the air. Did actually see a bunker wake the surface of the water. First time this year for bunker sighting. Best of all I had the place to myself, nobody else around ... I would occasionally hear the splash of Stripers ambushing bait... but it turned out to be a slow pick... First hookup was after about an hour and made a big splash on the surface and frothed up the surface of the water then took a screaming run ... then slack.. Hook Pulled out... Next one wasn't for another 2 hours.. Solid hit and took some nice runs. Walked it into the beach 31 inches. Dead for another hour and I was going through my last 3 cast routine when I got another solid hit. Fought hard took a few nice runs ... another 31 inch striper Had 3 hookups all night each an hour or 2 apart. Stayed for another 20 min but then packed it in
  13. Nice ... Did you get a measurement ...
  14. I was born and raised North of the Driscoll in Perth Amboy... It was nice growing up on the RB Used to sail a lot ... Not as nice as Woodbridge... but was ok growing up back in the 70's .... Used to work in Teterboro, Clifton and South Hackensack... Miss the italian deli's up there, but the commute sucked ... Still North of the Driscoll but more west than anything ... Commuted into NYC for 10 Years until Covid... Used to Drive to Jersey City and take the Path train ... 2 Hours Plus each way .. every day ... Now I work from home full time .. Probably move south in next year or 2 ... Like south of NJ ... Out of this crooked state ....
  15. Did you rig it up with wire between the hooks
  16. Always a good time Great to see everyone
  17. Plans changed to visit my sick friend on Saturday Looks like I will be able to come after all ... Looking forward to seeing everyone
  18. Guess I'll have to get out there tonight and give it a try
  19. Thanks for the info ...
  20. I was thinking about going out to RB tonight, but I am not sure if it will be fishable due to forecasted winds. Can somebody report on the conditions out there... White Caps, Muddy, fishable or not ... Thanks in advance
  21. Nice fish Is that a Mega Shad that you got it on .. Did you take measurements ...
  22. I have tentative plans to visit a sick friend that has been battling cancer for about 2 yrs. It depends if she's feeling good enough for us to visit. I'll try to make it if I can, but I will just have to wait and see...
  23. I use those same hooks and I like them, but I feel that they are not sharp enough straight out of the box. I sharpen them before I put them on my lures... If you can drag it across your thumbnail without it diggin in, then it not sharp enough.
  24. It happens to us all sometimes but , that's a heartbreaker ...
  25. MoCo Outback Last night 9:00 PM to 12:30 PM Nice night with moderate South Wind. No waves, just breeze rippled calm water with the wind to my back. I started out with a Loaded Redfin but wasn't having any luck... Switched over to a big MagDarter but I kept bumping bottom and pulling up weeds. So I switched over to my Alans Custom Glider but still ended up dragging bottom and pulling up weeds. Ok So I thought that I would try to go another way and I put on an old Gibbs Danny. No more problems with weeds but still no Love.... By this time the incoming tide was ripping so I decided to switch over to a suspending glider. Shortly afterwards I got my first hookup. The fish didn't take any drag but it felt like a pretty good one. It turned out to be a nice 31 inch slot fish. It swallowed my glider deep and I ended up harvesting it for the table. 5 Minutes later I hookup again and this is a much better fish that was taking some nice runs on my pretty tight drag... Unfortunately the fish ran to my right and tangled with the guy that was fishing to my right. The other guy was trying to manage the tangled lines and the fish ran right at him and dragged the lure across his waders and tore a hole in his waders. Ended up walking it into the beach to unhook it. It looked like it was an above slot fish and the other guy said he thought it was about 20# I took a quick pic that doesn't do it any justice but I wanted to get it back in the water after the long ordeal. It took a few minutes to revive the fish but it swam off strong... I saw one or 2 fish caught in the next 15 minutes but then it went dead ... Nothing at all for the next hour and half. I was just getting ready to pack it in when I got another hit. That fish turned out to be one of those hunchback fish. Looked like it was below slot sized but still put up a decent fight. Stayed for another half hour but it was dead ....
