  1. Check it out JBstripes... https://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/wintrstk21.htm I gave Shenandoah near Lakewood a shot once and liked the bass fishing, no trout to be had.
  2. I put a lot of time and effort into them there also with some success. I've had my best days and worst days fishing at that place, but the sour days just make the sweet days even sweeter. The major points and coves get fished to death, but the smaller points are worth working a crankbait around T-H-O-R-O-U-G-H-L-Y. This is the time of year that lake starts turning on with the SUP crowd gone. With the crankbaits you also have a shot at nailing a jumbo smallie from what's left there of that population. It's a beautiful, albeit difficult place to fish. There are a ton of large baitfish balls to follow around and they seem to roam more instead of settling in at a typical spot.
  3. What's the access like there? I know they've been doing construction, but I haven't been in the area in 2 years. I'm going down for a long Labor Day weekend to visit in-laws and want to wet a line. Anyone know the scoop? Is the boat launch area open for parking? If so, what do they charge nowadays? Can you fish the beach area or am I better off walking the trails? Thanks in advance, Fred
  4. Should be a good month. Hoping weather, wife, work, and school let me get out at least once or twice
  5. Personally, part of the fun is planning and sorting out the gear for what I'm targeting the night before or a couple nights before depending on available time. Not only do you find yourself carrying less of the non-essential, but it eventually saves you precious fishing time that you'll end up spending sorting through EVERYTHING and trying to decide what to tie on. That'll still happen, just to a lesser degree. But several odd lures do end up in that box because....well, just in case I see something funny swim by! Like others said though, you get a good workout carrying all that gear, so there is a plus side.
  6. Worked my usual river area for an hour with no luck, so I decided to explore a bit and find new access spots. Found a nice one with a clear trail into the woods. My short hike was worthwhile when I landed my first pike of the year! At 20", it's a little guy, but fun and exciting nonetheless. Also had a smallie "quick release" itself right at the water's edge. Fun day!
  7. It's funny to hear people here in NJ complain that we can only keep 2. If I get one that's over the 28", I'm happy for the rest of the year!
  8. I was going to say the same. Right now is probably a mix of perch and tomcod with a small chance at the occasional striper, catfish or eel. They're charging for parking now though (Memorial Day until Labor Day).
  9. Anything flashy and spinny works well. Try to stay away from treble hooks if you're just starting out, so maybe a small spinnerbait or beetlespin. Remember, unlike bass, pickerel have teeth...don't go reaching in there grabbing your lure out. Having a pair of fishing pliers or needlenose pliers will help.
  10. While throwing roostertails for trout and bass, I've foul-hooked quite a few in a brook by me. They feel huge, until I see that I'm winding them in sideways! Supposedly good muskie bait
  11. Don't beat yourself up about it, that is a beautiful but tough lake to fish. This time of year there is the best though, before it gets too crowded. I like the boat, it'll be nice for exploring there. Sometimes I have trouble there in the wind, was wondering how your's held up if it was windy out there?
  12. Delaware river is open year round. Other NJ lakes are catch and release only until May 1st for the spawn. Not sure about PA lakes.
  13. Check out the riverkeeper site... http://www.hackensackriverkeeper.org/public_access.html
  14. Thanks man. I'll check out Totowa when I get that way. I'm looking for bloodworms and bunker though so I don't think Dicks or Ramsey can help me.
