  1. I bought this for the Roosters at PVA, never got round to using it tho. Planning to fix a moveable reel seat also, so I can use just a few of the sections as a spinning rod. Not sure if u can source them over there tho ? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F362854709970
  2. Hi guys, I got a few questions. What size treble hooks on the the 7" model. All I can find is that they have 6X "fish fighter" VMC hooks ? I take that to be the hook strength, not the actual size of them. The reason I ask is that I want some hook bonnets, so I can keep a bunch of them together, without the mess of hook tangles. & lastly, what size replacement inline hook would you suggest for these lures, & would it be advisable to replace both trebles with singles. Not used these lures yet, picked a few up in Puerto Vallarta recently, while on vacation there (from the UK). Thanks in advance for any help here, it's going to be resorting to emailing around otherwise.
  3. When the crabs r due to molt is when they’re at their prime, they’re packed with juices. What we do in the UK is to peel them & wrap them in foil or cling film & put them straight in the freezer for use whenever. When using them, cut half way thro, & feed the hook thro (multiple crabs if they’re small), & then use bait elastic to secure the bait for casting. It’s a good Bass bait all year, especially around the molting season.
  4. Over here in the UK, those fish we know as Bream & Mackerel. Both good eating fish too. Oh, & that's an awesome avatar u got there Marty.
  5. U guys may already know this, but only recently starting doing it here in the UK. Lures of that kind r awesome fished at night, retrieved slowly. The white colour is always the best to use. I've had some luck using the Wave bamboo sticks recently as well.
  6. I'm assuming your talking about hard back crabs. That's something we don't use here in the UK. But "peeler" crabs.......dynamite bait for our European Sea Bass. A highly sought after bait & ridiculously priced in the tackle stores ! I'm wondering if any of u guys use them. No difference in what species of crab, but once every year, each & every crustacean HAS to molt, & shed it's old shell to grow. & at this time they're packed with juices that drive Bass wild. Easiest way to tell is to look for a crack alongside it's shell, or break a leg off & u should c the new one growing. Take them home (& some salt water) & get them in the freezer just before they pop their old shell. If u want to slow them down from peeling (so they'll be ready for when u want to use them), just keep them in the fridge with no water, & to bring them on, put them somewhere dark & not to warm & give them some of the water. Sorry if what I mentioned was useless to u, but hey ho. Tight lines all.
  7. It's been a while since I've been on here ! UK angler here, how r u lot on the other side of the pond. I imagine quite a few of u have fished the area concerned at some point, i'm hoping u can help me with some info regarding tackle, lures & techniques. My main target is a Roosterfish, & what little research I have done states that October is not the worse time to be trying to catch one. But I was primarily looking to try & catch one from the shore (guessing that would be a long shot these days). Was at Costa Rica in April, & failed to get one there (shore & boat), so this is pretty much plan B. Looking to take an 8' 6" spinning (popping) rod & a Finnor LT80 filled with 300 yards of 50 lb braid & maybe 60 lb fluoro for the leader, & at the lighter end a 9' spinning rod & a small Shimano reel with about 140 yards of 30 lb braid & 30 lb leader........would this gear be ok guys . It's lures I'm looking for info about mainly tho, & more specifically......colours & sizes. & how would I go about catching livebait in the area, & what would I be catching (blue runners & lady fish hopefully). I I can get hold of a kayak, I was thinking to troll sabiki rigs parallel to the beach, I found out (to late) that this was how it's done in Costa Rica. I'd appreciate any & all suggestions & advice, & thanks (in advance). & I'm sure I read somewhere that there r crocs around there somewhere, is this right !!! Oh, & can anyone recommend a boat for inshore fishing. Thanks again.
  8. Hi all: I'll be in Aruba in a few weeks, & i'm thinking to make up a few tube lures, they seem simple enough to make ? My question is that what i've read about them, its always mentioning wire of certain breaking strains, i was wondering if the lures can be made with a solid piece of wire through it ? I'd appreciate your views on this, as i've never even caught a Barracuda, but i'll be targeting them on vacation. As it stands now, i've got 80lb wire & size 1 Owner trebles (3x strength), but thought it would be easier to use solid wire, especially to rig the forward treble ?

  10. Thanks for the replies guys, you've been very helpful. Sorry Brian, i didnt mention where i'm going on vacation, its not Florida, its Aruba. Very popular with you Americans it seems. & yes "trace," you guys call it a leader if i'm not mistaken. I'll be going in October, & it cant come soon enough, i'm spending a small fortune on gear. She'll kill me "if" she finds out how much i'm spending. I know of tube lures, but theyre hard to come by over here. So i'm thinking to make a few, & i'm guessing about 16-18 long, but with them being this long, i'm thinking to fix a hook in the centre, but how can i achieve this without the tube being distorted from its fist strike ?
  11. Whats going on here ?!!!!! I'm from the UK, & although i have no idea of your fishing policies, i was aware of them some years ago (to a point). I've always been so envious of u guys & your striped bass, i thought u had everything down to a fine art: Bag limits, policing, funding..... it sounds like to me here that all that is going out the window !! Drew C. U commented: "In theory we should be able to manage the resource for its benefit not the user groups that profit from them. We don't need crazy slot limits we just need to kill fewer fish." I think over all, u should be thinking "they" not "we" unless u have a say in it, & who are the "user groups." There's a lot i dont know/understand about your fishing policies, but i wouldnt mind betting that the commercials have their finger in the pie somewhere. I was a member of B.A.S.S. (Bass anglers sportfishing society) in the UK for over 10 years, & we actually used to give our own money for our voice to be heard at government meetings, hoping it would bring about change (nothing yet, 10 years later). Sorry for the rant guys, but i've had a few beers, & reading all this has made me realise that all the years we fought to get the European Bass classed as a sportfish has still come to nothing. To be honest, we r in awe of what u have in place in the U.S. regarding your striped bass fishery, u've got to do what it takes to remedy it !!! I had no idea of your concerns until i read here whats going on !! The best of luck.

I don't know how old you are, but back in the 1950's, you might have seen my name written in the men's bog in Prestatyn railway station. Also, although 'Oldgoat' doesn't sound right to an outsider, a name he uses online, 'Oldgoat' is a sometimes humorous, good storytelling, well respected elder on Cape Cod who posts frequently on the Mass forum. So what brought you to Prestatyn in the 50's then Saxon59, were you born there perhaps. & i dont mind a song or two, but i'll need a few beers to loosen up the vocal chords first. I havent been there though, the nearest i've been is Llandudno, i was there about 6 months ago (& i was born in 66). I'd love to come over there, theres a few fish i really want to catch, the main one being a striped bass, & especially what your holding RoosterSeeker....awesome !! Can i catch them in the Caribbean ? I'm thinking to try Mexico next year, the pacific side, i've heard the fishing is good there, any idea's where i should head for, bearing in mind the wife will be with me. & i found that titanium leader, but what breaking strain would you recommend ? Tube lures are alien to me, they look easy enough to make, but i want to be sure i do it correctly, i'd be gutted if it comes that i have to trash each one after the first fish. I imagine a few will get trashed though, judging by the dentures on some of the fish there !! I didnt mention, but i'm going to Aruba for the first two weeks of October, & i want to catch EVERYTHING !!!!!!
  13. Thanks guy's, it seems that i could use almost anything to get their attention, but the majority are opting for the Daiwa sp's, so i guess i'll be packing a few of these. Would it be worth trolling with a bait of some sort, is it a viable option ? I've really no clue to this trolling caper lads, so you'll have to forgive me if some of my questions might come across as a bit stupid, but i'm a virgin. Ok, possibly this is a stupid question, but where i'm going they have some decent Snook, i've no idea what they are, what they feed on, if they go for lures or if i could get one or two trolling. Can someone enlighten me please. & thanks for your input SEQld, but i was told that Spanish Mackerel is one fish i probably wouldnt catch, as the lure cant be worked fast enough to attract them (no idea). Pretty much everything i could catch trolling will have a decent set of teeth, how long a wire leader would you suggest, & what breaking strain? Would 40lb be over the top ?

Hi oldgoat (that dont sound right). Yes, St Davids is a beautiful area, its about a 2 hour drive for me. I've not fished there for a few years, but lately i've been to nearby Solva, a few have been targeting sharks from the shore (Tope, up to 52lb), all good fun.
