  1. Hi.I believe they are Gibbs.I worked at Gibbs in ' 77 + ' 78.I agree with SC about the bevel on the lip. That was where the cutter that cut the nose stopped when the nose was swung through the radius which formed the lip.The bevel section was actually under the cutter blades and didn' t get touched by the cutter. Also if those are original and made in the 70's or early 80's I would check the tail grommet.Gibbs used a tail grommet that was like a scallop design as shown in the attached pic.The 2 on the left and 2 in the center were Gibbs of that period The 1 on the right (round)is similar to what most other builders used. All the Gibbs thru-wire plugs had this type grommet, bought them by the thousands. After John sold the business I don't know if they continued to use that tail grommet.I also knew Geirge Carlezon realky well anf fished with him throughout the 70's to the 90's.I believe George' s Bottle had no bevel on the lip. Also I believe Georges plugs were mahogany but not sure.Gibbs were definitely Sugar Pine.Hope this helos you with an ID.
  2. Hi,I've had good luck with Offshore Angler pliers the red ones from Bass Pro $39.99 reg.$29.99 when they have them on sale. They come with a nylon sheath and a lanyard. The cutters cut braid clean and hold up well. They will not cut hooks though. They now also have blunt nose.I like the original longer jaw better cause it has a longer reach if you the inside the mouth.
  3. Hi,the stones sound like a really good idea. For the final sanding I use Crocus cloth which is very fine and you can bend it around all the contours.

  5. I fished the original plastic(foam) Jr. Atom on the beaches alot.It used to be a killer at Chatham Inlet (before it broke through late 70's-early 80's)last hour out, slack, and first hour in when there was bigger bait around than sandeels. It held quite well in the rip and also cast quite well with spinning gear. The jr. was also a great eelskin plug as it was smaller than the Atom 40 it was easier to find skins to fit.Worked real slow it stayed right on top making a nice wake, speed it up and it would go under a bit and still swim great.I have also used it in the canal at night especially just before during and after slack with good success.Once the current really gets going you can still use it if you can find backwashes.
  6. Sorry I hit the button twice by mistake.
  7. I have a set of both green and orange handle Texas Tackle pliers. They handle all of my work. The orange handle can even be used on the larger rings in a pinch, although the green handle definitely work better and easier on the largest rings. So far they are the best I have used.
  8. I agree that we may get another storm or two but THE GOOD THING is it won't stay around for long this time of year.SO SPRING IS just around the corner.
  9. Hi,I have one of the Curt tray style racks.Although I use it only for my bike in the padt I have put two bikes on it in an emergency to give someone a lift back to the other end of the canal. It's no pleasure to do.Of course the baskets have to be staggered. You can leave the post down when putting the first bike on get it in the tray then elevate the post and then put the second bike on or if there are two of you then you can pick up the first bike and push it on behind the post. Then securing them can be a pain.So it can be done but takes quite a bit of time and patience. Not something I would want to do on a regular basis and then as stated there is the 90lb weight limit, which probably would be ok on the highway and decent roads, don't know about fourwheelin!!!!
  10. Hi Matt, I agree with scrapper about thr Shimano Tiralejo. Not trying to talk you out of the TFO,but the 11 ft.Tiralejo is a Great Choice if you want one rod to do a good job of most lures on the Canal. It has a light tip which it will cast a SP minnow quite well if you need to use one, but also casts a 2 1/2-3oz.pencil really well.I'm sure it would handle a 31/2 pencil with no problem. It will cast 228 4oz. Magic Swimmers and 182 Stick Shads with no problem. It will cast and work 5oz Savages and I have used 6oz. Spro jigs with it when I needed to and it handles fish quite well in the Canal as even though the tip is a little on the light side which is why it will cast a SP minnow quite well the rod has adequate backbone to handle good fish also.So for the money it is a Great Choice for a one rod for the canal, which gives you another option.
  11. Ha,ha,ha. When+if Roger sees this it should remove any+all doubt if there was any just how we feel about him here in New England.GREAT PHOTO!!!
  12. Sorry to hear Buckos is closing.I got a lot of parts there over the years.I live in Taunton so the shop was about a half hour drive for me.On most occasions they had what I needed in stock and were able to come home with what I needed and when they didn't Mike usually got it pretty fast and shipped it to you quickly. They had a tremendous inventory of parts and was very convenient for locals.
