  1. Personally I'd be more worried about PFAS in the water I drink. If regularly ate large amounts of freshwater fish it might give me pause but I usually only have a handful of such meals a year.

  3. National Consumer Telecom & Utilities Exchange- its a credit agency that cell providers and utility companies use, and one that people typically don't recognize. Freezing your file prevents someone from opening a cell phone plan or signing up for utilities using your personal info. In recent years thieves have been opening accounts with cell providers using stolen identities and purchasing a bunch of high end cell phones on credit which are then re-sold by the thief for profit.
  4. ID protection companies are useless. You want to prevent the damage from occurring and all these companies are able to do is alert you once it's already happened. It's a much better practice (and free) to freeze your credit file with the big 4 and monitor it yourself via free annual reports and/or credit karma. I say big 4 because everyone forgets about Innovis and many experts recommend to include freezing your NCTUE file as a fifth.
  5. I love a good soup and one of my favorite motivators to cook something new is attempting to imitate a meal I loved but can no longer find. Last winter I had a bowl of yellow coconut curry chicken soup from a 'pop-up' event, and it was so good I set out to see if I could recreate it. I typically start at google, read through a few recipes that seem to be in line with what I'm looking for, pick out the bits and pieces I like, and create something of my own. I was unable to find a perfect match but found a few that got me in the ballpark and off I went to the store. I'm not much for precise measurements, and rarely follow recipes to a T, but this turned out so good I had to share (and will attempt an overview of my recipe). Yellow Coconut Curry Chicken Soup Ingredients: 2 lbs Boneless Skinless chicken breasts, trimmed of excess fat and hard bits, and lightly sprinkled with salt and pepper 14 oz can Coconut milk (unsweetened), solidified fat removed 32 oz Low sodium chicken stock or broth Better than bullion roasted chicken base, 1 tsp Yellow curry paste, 1 tbsp Yellow curry powder, 1 tsp Turmeric, 1 tsp Ground coriander, ½ tsp Ground fenugreek, ¼ tsp 6-8 oz Snow peas, rinsed and ends trimmed 4 Carrots, rinsed, peeled, and cut in to 1/8th inch rounds; (carrot greens rinsed if present) Dried wide rice noodles, ie pad thai noodles 2 cloves minced garlic 1 medium onion, half diced, and half thinly sliced 1 bunch green onions, sliced with greens and whites separated 1 bunch Lemongrass, rinsed/cleaned 1 bunch cilantro, stems and leaves separated with leaves minced 1 Lime, halved with one half cut in wedges Salt and pepper to taste Method: Heat a large thick-walled stockpot over medium; add oil; and sauté chicken in batches flipping once. Remove to a plate once well-browned on both sides. Add diced onion, and cook for 1-2 minutes, add whites from the green onions and cook 1-2 more minutes. Add garlic, powdered spices, curry paste, and bullion and cook for 1-2 minutes. Deglaze with chicken stock scraping up the fond from the bottom of the pan. Add 4 cups water and bring to a boil. Add a sachet or bouquet garni containing lemongrass, cilantro stems, and carrot greens. Add coconut milk and reduce heat to simmer. Allow to simmer for 30 mins or more. While the soup base simmers, bring a second pot full of water to a boil and add salt. Boil the snow peas for 30 seconds and remove with a slotted spoon to a large bowl full of ice water. Boil the carrots until just cooked through, remove with a slotted spoon to the same ice water bath. Boil the noodles for 2 minutes while stirring well, drain, and immediately rinse thoroughly with cold water using an ice bath if needed. Drain the veggies and noodles in a colander and set aside. Slice the chicken thighs lengthwise, add back to the soup base, and simmer for 30 minutes. Add juice from half a lime. Taste broth and add bullion (or water) if needed; add salt and pepper to taste. If more broth is desired add more water and bullion or extra low sodium chicken broth. To Serve: Place snow peas, carrots, thinly sliced onion, and noodles in a soup bowl. Ladle hot broth over top and garnish with green onion, cilantro leaves, and a squeeze from a lime wedge. Notes: -Store the soup base and noodles/veggies in separate containers and keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days. -Take this recipe with a grain of salt as I made a batch about twice this size and didn't actually measure much. -I also included a chicken neck and some wing tips from my freezer in my soup base. In the future, I'd include a few kaffir lime leaves to the base if I had them, cut the noodles before serving, consider including bean sprouts in the serving bowl, and maybe garnish with thai basil. -This recipe is very flexible and can be easily adapted or simplified by using other veggies, using potatoes instead of noodles, omitting ingredients you don't have on hand, omitting the bullion and water in favor of broth, omitting the broth in favor bullion and water, or even using frozen veggies. It would even work well as a vegetarian soup with a few easy substitutions. Now that it's getting cold I'm curious to hear your favorite soups!

  8. EPA says you should consider taking action between 2-4 but the actual action limit is 4 pCi/L. Personally I wouldn't sweat that level depending on how it was determined. You need a long term average, not a single reading. You can buy a digital radon monitor from a company called airthings on amazon for around $100. I'd start with that and only consider taking action once i knew the long term average.

  10. Honestly the place to start is with water test results in hand. You need to know what you want to filter out, how much to adjust the pH, etc. 10k is nutty.

  13. Unfortunately this is a super common type of scam these days. They love to target two of my biggest hobbies- fishing and mountain biking. While the red flags are often glaring, it is always a good idea to do a Whois lookup of any website from which you are considering ordering. For instance, fishermensale[dot]com was registered only a couple months ago and expires after a single year. Proper businesses will register sites for long periods of time, as in decades. Additionally the registrant has obfuscated their identity and not provided any contact information.

  16. I did this before I had a ski rack, and I like the ski rack much better. Despite my best efforts to protect the rods, they ended up bouncing around inside the PVC and cracking eyelets. I have never had an issue with rocks or the tips being too bouncy in a ski rack.
  17. I use a thule ski rack to transport rods on the highway all the time; never been an issue.

  19. I love my 5k spheros and my 6k 'gosa. I more or less follow alan hawk's reel maintenance guide- rinse after each use, oil/grease periodically, tear down once a year. In lieu of a shower head I use a garden hose set to the shower setting. One thing I've noticed about my spheros, like you mentioned about the slammer, is that minor water intrusion will occur (once had major intrusion after abusive dunking). I haven't used/abused the 'gosa extensively enough to know if the performs any better.

  24. lol what? i guess you never heard about mt. gox? crypto exchanges not being trust worthy has been an issue since the birth of crypto. there is a reason the #1 rule of crypto is if don't own the private key you don't own the coins.
