I am so fed up with this teeter totter back and forth when it comes to the fixation re: the congressional majority. Instead of either side taking the helm when their party's number is called ( & the other side is given their referendum) and actually governing, the "victorious" side just treads water. When they finally do have control of the Hill, they are too concerned with how they may negatively impact the party's PR machine in the next election cycle instead of actually making changes.
We've been hearing about addressing "social issues", immigration control, building up and adding to the "middle-class" for countless election cycles / presidential administrations, and there hasn't been anything resembling real change. Instead we continue to see the game of pass the baton to the opposing party and hope they sink themselves enough so you can regain control of the majority in the next election. All the while there has been nothing done about the budget deficit, education reform, and we continue to kick the can down the road on the debt ceiling.
Not to bring down the mood, but does anyone have a notion as to what will ever break this boom and bust cycle of party control on the Hill? If the answer is "no" , I'm not sure I want to even stay engaged during these mid-terms going forward. And if that is ultimately the case, can we at least legalize recreational weed to make it fun to be in a haze through the entire thing??? That's one way both sides can make a change for the positive.
