  1. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Looking at a Maxel HY20 right now paired with a Shimano Trevala Jigging Rod. My question off of this is, what lb braid do people usually use when ocean fishing for blackfish? I know in the LIS you can get away from 20-30# braid easily but not sure if this is too light for wreck fishing in deeper waters.
  2. Appreciate the feedback from everyone. Will mainly be fishing LI Sound and Southshore. Have a little bit of a lighter setup for when I'm fishing shallow but have never owned a heavier setup for deeper wreck/ocean fishing. Thanks again for the replies/feedback.
  3. Hi All, I am looking to purchase a conventional reel for blackfishing in deeper water. I would be using anywhere from 6-12oz of lead and fishing in depths of 60-80 feet. I was wondering if anyone had any information or recommendations on reels. I was looking at an Avet SXJ but worried that 14# of drag won't be enough but if I am completely wrong on that assessment, please let me know. -HoboFisher
  4. Appreciate all the feedback guys. I'll look into the Porgy and Miss Avalon. I actually have seen some stuff on Facebook about Insomniac so definitely will give him a look as well. Assuming he will be a bit more pricey but loving the idea of getting into some stripers/sheepshead in late August.
  5. Hey All, I'll be down in Stone Harbor/Avalon area at the end of August. Going to bring my surf setup to do some fishing from the beach/in the bays but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for a party/charter boat that I could hop on one day during the week. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks,
  6. Thanks for all the input guys. Reason I am going with this reel is I have a decent deal on it but wanted to make sure it would hold up in the salt. Appreciate the info.
  7. I would mainly be using it in saltwater. Doing some bottom jigging for fluke, small bass, and then the occasional freshwater trip for LM Bass.
  8. Was told I might get more responses on the Main forum so posting this here as well. I am about to pull the trigger on an Abu Garcia Revo SX baitcaster and wanted to see if anyone had any input on this reel. I am worried it may not hold up in saltwater use for too long. I will mainly be using it on a boat so won't be getting submerged and may get the occasional splash. Any input you all can provide would be great.
  9. Thanks. I will post it over on the Main Forum too.

  12. I fish the Schuylkill around Pottstown whenever I am home. Couple decent stretches where you hook in to some decent size bass but definitely seeing a decline in the smaller bass which is concerning. About a year or so ago I was catching some smaller guys on smaller creeks which was promising but haven't been able to get back down to PA and fish since I moved for work. Hopefully I can get home one weekend soon and give it a run. Attaching a pic of the size of smallies I caught in the creeks. (They were small....)
  13. From the album Sad state of smallmouth

  14. Freshwater: Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Sockeye Salmon Saltwater: Tarpon, Bonefish, Halibut
  15. Appreciate all the feedback guys. Definitely not falling on deaf ears. Who knows, maybe I could toss one of those rats on the line and see what bites...
