  1. Heading down to the "Riviera Maya" area, just south of Cancun at the end of March. Like my last trip, I'm the only one in my extended family that likes to fish, which makes it hard to justify hiring a 3-4 passenger panga. So again, looks like I will hit the surf and try my luck. I figure on bringing my 11' spinning rod and also a few smaller rigs. I will be staying at one of those namby pamby all inclusive hotels (Paradisus Riviera Cancun), which is about 1.5 miles north of Puerto Morelos. Anyone with experience in the area? Thanks in advance. Steve

  3. I doubt that many Mitchell products are made in France. Korea is more like it. Still hoping that someone has used this reel.
  4. Fat Tire Ale (Colorado), mainly because it is not available on the West Coast.
  5. I've done a google search and looked at FishMitchell.com. I was hoping that someone here has some real world experience with the Armada. Thanks again.
  6. Does anyone own the new Mitchell Armada? I did a search and can not find much about it. The price looks good but I can't tell if it is all metal construction or some kind of graphite. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks to all for the advice. The reels I've seen look like your basic Emblem/Emcast large dia. spools. In general, I understand that these are not "waterproof" reels and don't respond well to a dunking. I've read most of Sergio's posts regarding his reviews of the Daiwas and the tecniques he uses for targeting roosters. I suspect that the "pit" reels are essentially the same reels, marketed for carp fishermen. In any case, I'll be real careful about the salt and sand. Thanks again.
  8. I am looking to get a long casting spinning reel for a future trip down to Mexico, targeting roosters from the surf. Something like the Emcast or Okuma Solaris. I would like to get a used reel to stay in budget. Looking on Ebay and some other sources, searching for long cast reels, I came across some Daiwas called "pit" reels. I gather this is a British term, some of the reel are described as carp reels. My question is whether these type reels would be suitable for ocean surf fishing. I know some reels that are used in Japan for distance casting don't have much in the way of drags. Any body know about these reels? Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks Sergio, I got your email as well. I will get in tough with you as my trip approaches. Meanwhile, I think I had better practice my casting!
  10. I'm going on a family trip to Mazatlan in early January, staying at the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan. I know that there are some great opportunities for surf fishing down there. Curious if anyone can give me advice concerning what to expect in January (not so good for the Roosters, I believe), what type of gear to bring and any areas to recommend. BTW, I know Sergio is the man down there, I've read most of his posts on here and some other forums. Thanks in advance.
