  1. From my understanding Ianotti is correct. I have one from '91. It's very stiff with a fast (or moderate fast by today's standards) tip. At the time, I found it extremely stiff and overpowering for mid sized fish. It was my first graphite rod so compared to Sglass and honey blanks it was quite an adjustment. From my understanding, Lamiglass was getting negative feedback about the extreme difference to their older non graphite blanks and introduced a more parabolic blank that was more suitable to users of fiberglass blanks. After a few years, I grew accustomed to the rod and later built one of the newer models and found that it was maybe more suitable for poppers, but I love my old rod for everything else. Built with COF SIC guides and an old VS300. It really does cut through heavy wind better than the newer style IMHO. I would say 1 - 5oz would be the extreme weight limits with 1.25 -3.5oz being the sweet spot. Hope this helps...
  2. Thanks for everyones help. Mike and I are talking and making plans, thanks again!!
  3. Thanks, I'll definitely, contact him!
  4. I have a CTS VT1102-1 blank that I'd like get get built. Nothing too complicated. Let me have you contact info and we can chat further, Thanks
  5. Can anyone recommend a quality surf rod builder CT? If possible, western CT.
  6. I usually change out the stock hooks from new plugs. I'll save the stock hooks to make flag tails from. Saves $$
  7. Klein Linesman pliers will cut through most anything and not pinch the cutting blades. Can be found at an electrical supply house. The pair I use can also be used as a crimping tool. Not something you'd wear on your belt, but leave in your boat or truck... Also a good pair or diagonal side cutters "dykes" by Klein is a comforting tool to have around.
  8. Started using them last year. Pretty much all I use for bucktails these days. Easier than pork and IMHO just as effective. You can pre-rig them which is handy. White 6" mostly, sometimes chartreuse. I'd like to try some of the other colors but really haven't needed to. You cut them back a few rings from the top depending upon what sized bucktail you're using. No glue needed... way cheap also.

    Vs200 VS Vs250

I think its about rod size and weight. I have a 200 that I use on 9' & 10' rods and a 250 for 10'-11'ers. I find that the 250s are perfect for old school glass and s-glass 10 -11.5'ers or 11' GSB1Ls. Love my 200 on my new fiberstar 9' rapter...

  11. Thanks, TJD! Will certainly check it out
  12. Thanks WP, I'll get started with the research. Do you know if the access is easier during late fall when the summer crowds are gone?
  13. The closest areas to me would be between Norwalk and Bridgeport. I would certainly travel farther for better grounds or specific tides. I usually fish in waders, mostly Bass on plugs along with seasonal Blues and Weaks, both day & night. I don't mind walking at all...
  14. Hello All, Been living in the Danbury area for the last 20 years. I've been surf fishing mainly the south shore of LI from Jones to MTK for the last 30 years. The trips out there are getting to be a little too much of a time commitment and I was looking to start hitting the local shores of CT. I've never fished in the state and was wondering if I can get some seasoned guidance from knowledgeable locals. I'm certainly not asking for secret spots, just some good places start that have easy access and hopefully productive fishing. My preference is open beach, but spend lots of time on the rocks. I would also appreciate any input regarding beach driving and local permitting. I hope people don't think this as spot burning. I really don't have a clue to the area and I'm just trying to fish closer to home. I appreciate any help you may offer.
  15. 14 year old post reply. I have serial #229. I must have bought mine 10 minutes before you git yours. Still in use and well as a few newer ones.
