  1. I have this on my Equator (Frontier Clone). $40 at one of the big sporting goods store. Goes on with straps. Handles my bass rods with no trouble. Not sure about surf rods.
  2. Answered yes. But it's really yes if you mean when I do fish the shore do I fish with a fly rod 90% of the time. If you mean 90% of all fishing trips I'd have to day no cause a lot of my fishing is done with a yak and fly rod in the back. Sometimes in fresh water also.
  3. If you are interested in Fly fishing for LMB in SJ, you might be interested in this. For the October 27th Meeting of South Jersey Trout Unlimited: We are fortunate to have Russell Palermo (of Fly Fish South Jersey) giving a presentation on "An introduction to fly fishing Southern NJ (warm water & saltwater) Topics include, but are not limited to: water bodies, species, techniques, and equipment/watercraft." The meeting starts at 7:30pm at Square Circle Sportsmen's club in Gibbsboro.
  4. Went once before I realized that I was being tricked into paying for the privilege of shopping in their store. Never again. Went because I was interested in a Cobra Explorer. They told me that Cobra was going out of business. Upon calling Cobra, they laughed and told me that I was the third call that day from people that Jersey Paddler told that Cobra was not still in business. Cobra was one of the lines they don't carry. Go figure.
  5. Opps. Should have read 30 MPG. That's what comes of being so old that when I was in school only girls were alowed to take typing. This is probably the Mahindra that only goes 30 MPH.
  6. Yep. They sound great. I'm waiting for a TR20 to replace my F250. M&M has been making 4WD for 60 years. 30 MPG. 7.5 ft bed. Just found out that Chapman Ford is building a one million dollar show room for when they start selling them in 2010.
  7. As many others have said. "Not a problem." I fly fish from my Outback both day and (mostly) nights. The line almost never gets anywhere near the drive pedals, just lays in my lap. I do a small thread wrap around the line so I don't pull the leader back in through the tip-top for when I can't see the line in the night. If you do troll your fly make sure you put a swivel on the fly, otherwise you can put some twist in the line. They do make little lips that can be tied on the fly that make it into a tiny little Rapalla. As Barrell says always have a line in the water when you are moving the yak.
  8. If everything goes well I'm going to trade in my F250 and VW TDI and get a Mahindra Pickup at the end of the year when/if they get imported. 2.2 Common rail Diesel, 4WD, 6 sp, 7.5 ft bed, hauls 1.25 tons. Would I rather get another Ford? Yep but they don't want to sell me what I need.
  9. on my suburban I had my auto shop teacher weld a square metal reciever that he burned a hole through for the pin. $20 I could put a Hitch Hauler with a big marine cooler on it with no problem.
  10. From a guy that drives both a Brazilian VW diesel and a F250 diesel, I'm waiting for the new Mahindra. Apparently Ford dosen't want to sell me my next pickup.
  11. I'll second Pflueger. I have had them for years in my kayak. They get soaked every trip. No problems. The one time I dropped mine (6 years old reel) and screwed up the "axel/thing the real rotates on" I sent it back to Pflueger and the asked me if I would take their highest priced reel and two spare spools instead of them repairing it.
  12. Absolutely. I kayak fly fish all the time. Safety glasses are manditory. Also a good trick it to mark your line in two places. With the leader past the end of the rod, mark the line at the reel with several wraps of thread sealed with super glue. That forms a bump on the line that you can feel at night so you don't keep stripping the leader past the tip-top. Also make a thread bump at the point where the whole head of the line is out. That gives you a good idea of where your cast is if you can't see the end of the line.
  13. Right. And those of us that use NiMH batteries are only getting 9.6V from the 8AA cells. And without digging out my manual I'm pretty sure that my Humminbird Priahan Max 20 steps everything down to 8V. That's why the imput can be 9.6 up to the 18V drill power pack that some people use. I've use the RS 8pack for years and never had a problem
  14. You might want to consider dive reels. That way you will know that they are salt water proof.
