  1. Headed to Key West on January 20th. Looking to charter a boat for both inshore and offshore fishing. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
  2. FYI. I’m running mainly 50’s and 70’s. No 130’s.
  3. They’re called Port a Rod. They have a website and carry set up’s for heavy gear. I have one. Never failed
  4. Am I dreaming to think I can use a Shimano SpeedMaster II12 and a Lamiglass bluewater rods to jig for Bluefin tuna east of Chatham. Or do I step up to a Talica and new rod.
  5. Tarpon will be on big spinning gear! Hopefully……
  6. Headed to Islamorada in April. I got a flats boat for 3 days, the rest is DIY from shore. I have a 9wt rod I use on cape cod waters with an intermediate and sinking line. I have an 8wt with a floating line. Is there anything I’m missing. I’m thinking about picking up the Rio Elite Flats pro 9wt. Is this overkill for a 1x’s per year trip?
  7. Thanks. Will be taking your advice!
  8. Renting a boat on my own. Have done so the last few years but used spinning. Too windy for my skill set with a fly rod. There were time I wished I had brought the fly gear when the wind layed down.
  9. Makeshift for Winter Months. Highlights my addiction
  10. My wife is having the surgery in December. Right should, full tear and bone Spurs. Did you get a recliner with a remote control for sleeping. Most power recliners come with a right arm side button. ( not good if you have right shoulder surgery. )
  11. Had a pair of 580g green mirror Permits, rubber around nose separated from frame. Did it all online . Sent pics was approves for a replacement, didn’t have mine in Tortoise frame but choose black frame as replacement. Whole process took less than 4 weelk from start - returned my old glasses (on their UPS dime) and received my new pair of 580g in black frame. Painless process IMHO.
  12. I’m heade to Islamorada in a few week. Will have boat and thinking of fishing bridges for Tarpon. I’m bringing two Shimano II Speedmasters spooled with 50 lb braid. Both will be on some Lamiglass Bluewater rods ( planing to troll with the setup Oceanside if I get a weather window ). Can I use these to fish for tarpon ( live bait ) around bridges. I was thinking 60 lb leaders. Any advice on this set up. Also size circle hooks for live bait for tarpon.
  13. Korkers wading boots with studded sole. Also use wading neoprene socks. Better fit than regular socks. And if for some reason you need to go in the water not a big deal.
  14. Simms G3. I take very good care of them. Patched a few holes. Going on 8 years. Still work great.
  15. Port a rod .com. Plenty of options love mine and easy in and out of truck.
  16. 14 years is a lot of great memories. Let that get you through the grief. Never easy. Good luck over the next week or two. Hope the pain goes quick.
  17. Korkers with studs all the time now. Worth it. Buy some neoprene socks to help fill out the boots. Very secure on the wet slimy rocks.
  18. Daughter has done great job with him. Very well behaved and extremely bright! I’ll see how he likes to fish this summer. If he’s like most goldens I’m sure he do great.
  19. I’m in.
  20. “Murphy” almost 5 months had definitely made life a bit more enjoyable. No doubt on his way to being “one of the best”!
  21. Daughter bought a new Golden and we have been getting all we need with visits.
  22. I’ve been researching this a lot on the web. I’m seeing many set-ups employed for spinning rod and reel include doubling up your braided line( spider hitch) connect that to a 5’ 50 lb. leader via a bristol knot and then add 60/80 lb 12” leader to the 5’ leader via a double uni knot. The goal is to keep the 12” of 60/80 outside the rod tip. Do many use this? Seems like you could accomplish the same thing with an FG knot connecting 60/lb leader to your braid. I’d be interested to get opinions one way or another.
  23. Easy! Bill Withers - Lovely Day............... The “ you “ in the song is anywhere I fish. Ha Ha ! ....as in “ Just one look at you, and the world’s all right with me.......”
  24. Not sure. When you buy from Tackle Direct they identify fast sink or slow sink.
  25. Markings on the back ( top ) of magis swimmer will tell you. F= floating. S= sinking
