  • What I do for a living:
Student of English; Stained Glass Artist
  1. Bought some new lures today and went out at around 8 to give them a swim. Managed some bass and a pair of fluke. Nearly all of the action came around midtide, then tapered as the water neared high. Monmouth county. http://www.stripersonline.com/content/type/61/id/1808506/width/1000/height/1000]
  2. Fished MoCo 5-7. Bait and bass were around, lots of mullet running for their lives. The bass were picky, though. Missed a few hits and landed one probably just shy of being a keeper. Got her on a polaris. Big water out there right now.

  4. The Reel Seat in Manasquan on 71. Anything you could need for the surf, they have.
  5. Last night and this morning in SoMoCo: Small blues blowing rain fish clear out of the water in droves. That was the bulk of the action, along with the occasional short fluke, but still no stripes! Briefly last night there was a large school of mullet flying out of the water where I was, but I couldn't get a look at what was after them, nor could I entice anything to bite. Probably just some more blues. I'll be out again tomorrow morning with hopefully some stripes to report on.
  6. I've got a question for you, Mr. MC55, regarding the mullet run. (I only specify MC55 because I know that we target the same area and I gather that he is pretty good at this. I hope anyone with answers would respond to help.) I've been fishing for the entirety of my life and, though that isn't very long, I think of myself as a fairly competent fisherman. It wasn't until summer 2013 that I began focusing heavily on surf fishing, so I still have plenty of room to learn. I struggle with mullet for some reason. I can never track them down, mostly because I don't know what to look for. I know very well the patterns and movements of bunker, sandeels, and other baitfish, but can never seem to pin down mullet, they always seem very elusive to me. So, with that being said, I wanted to ask you what it is that you look for when searching for mullet, what it looks like when you find them, how quickly they move on, or any other information of the sorts. I very much appreciate it. As for my report, I fished Monmouth County from 9-12 targeting stripers but caught only one fluke. Better than the skunk I suppose! Would love to see some more stripers soon.

Oh well, better than the first cast curse i guess. Last time I said last cast I snapped my rod tip, I doubt I'll ever say it again!

Had a hard time getting them to commit to poppers but put a metal on and they were hooked before I could even crank. Sounds like fun. Think they'll be around later on?
  10. MC55 saves the day!!!!! And also makes me question why I didn't manage a fish... But good catch MC55.
  11. Scratch that, looks like the winds are swinging from west to south the long way over the course of the day, from west to north to east to south.
