I just made the switch to non-mono line, and a conventional reel. Overall, I am very impressed. Further casting, better "feel" for the fish (kind of like sex without condoms, without all of the disadvantages of the STDs, AIDS and the dying and all).
However I am losing fish becasue of the line going slack at times while I am bringing them in. I think this might be becasue of the lack of stretch of the synthetic line, or the relatively slow retrieve of the conventional reel (A.G 6500), or my mashed barbs??
Nobody seemed to mention this before I made the purchase, am I the only one to notice this?
By the way, before the wiseguys say that it is becuase I suck, I really never had this problem before the gear change.
