Reel upgrading, cod fishing, surf fishing
  1. Thanks a bunch for the info! Hopefully the trade off is worth it only time will tell.
  2. Its got a max drag of 16.5lbs i usally fish between 8lbs to 10lb max so no it wont be under high drag, just having everything rest on the anti reverse bearing makes me a lil uneasy. I plan on using the reel same way i use my small trinis now for fluke, stripers, blues, black seabass, cod and tog. I mainly got the reel due to it having a lower gear ratio and the spool lock feature. I was able to get 275 yards of 50lb regular green power pro on it today and plan on breaking it in tomorrow. So hopefully this lil reel holds up like the trinis do.
  3. Ok thank you for your help. I also want to post a side by side comparasion for anyone thats interested in getting a ocea jigger 1500pg. All my internet research led me to believe it was the size of the trini 14a which is not the case its much narrower more the size of the 12a. Hopefully someone may find this side by side of the 14a to the ocea 1500 helpful.
  4. Hi i just recived my new 2017 ocea jigger 1500pg and noticed theres no anti reverse dog shown in the schematic. Does anyone know why they removed it? My question is if the anti reverse bearing is strong enough on its own? My trinidad 14a has two anti reverse dogs just wondering if any one knows if theres something new in the 2017 design that im missing that eliminates the need for the anti reverse dogs. 03669.pdf
  5. I've been fishing for cod for a few years now and its pretty much my main target species now, does anyone know what causes some cod to be wormy?? I mostly fish for them in the winter but go out a few times in the summer and notice some have them and some don't from the same area. Also some one told me about a parasite found in eel pout that attacks the human nervous system is this true or just an old wives tale??
  6. Billz if you were to sell that kit you made how much?? I like trying out new and different mods. Also do the screws ever loosen up on you?? I use meduim strength thread locker on the kits I buy on ebay but sometimes its a pain to lossen the screw with corrosin on it to service the bearing. If the kit you designed doesnt require lock tight I'll be interested in a few.
  7. I fish the helcat II quite often since its the closest to me and have never had a problem filling my cooler though its sometimes its not always cod. The mates are good and theres plenty of room with their 40 person limit. But I myslef will be checking out the francess fleet this coming winter as well as the viking I always here great stuff about them. There are also quite alot of videos on youtube featuring the boats cod fishing as well. (francessfleet.com), (vikingfleet.com), (helcat.com) I think generaly most party boats are good as the captains will do there best to get you on the fish it all depends on a far you want to travel and how much you want to spend on a trip.
  8. Wow thats one hell of a fish!!!!!! Hope he gets that world record. What was that monster caught on??
  9. Spigola how much 65# braid does that bg20 hold??
  10. Penn 113h are great work horses a little heavy and have a decent 3.25-1 retrive but this means when cranking in to check bait it can take a little longer. I personaly use a torium 30 with a 6:2:1 the high speed ratio makes it easy to check bait and get back to the fishing. I have also recently been using a jigging master pe8 which has a 4:1 retrive and I like alot but its a little over kill. It all depends on what you want to spend and your style of fishing. Oh yea almost forgot high speed ratio can also mean more dropped fish you have to reel moderatly a lesson I learned the hard way.
  11. Normaly yes, but in your case that bearings got to be stuck.
  12. I assume you removed the yoke and pinion gear so you should be left with being able to see the spool shaft and attached bearing. Im doing this now to mine to see if it would work pusing the spool out, If you have a small 1/4 socket that fits in the hole put it over the shaft and tap it a few times with a rubber hammer it should pop the spool out, dont worry about too much force as the spool is being "pushed" out paralel to the shaft, instead of being twisted and such from being "pulled" which could bend the shaft. The socket im using is a craftsman 4mm, with a taper. It is a long socket of course. Dont forget to buy a new spool bearing!! Becuase its defenitly stuck to the frame and from hitting the shaft and the bearing being stuck it will most likely damage the bearing!!!
  13. http://www.zeebaas.com/maintenance.html Im not firmiliar with the zeebaas reels but have you contacted them with your problem? I did find a tutorial on service on their website don't know if you will find the problem if you service the reel but heres the link.
