  1. Hello. I used Penn grease and packed it up pretty good. Kind of worked but after one trip, the handle began turning again when raising the reel to cast. I overpacked the reel with grease and that did the trick but again, only temporarily. I ended up getting the SaltX 6000 and I will not be looking back. The reel is awesome. To answer your question about greasing the bearing, I imagine that was greased up too as I believe that lives under the main gear which I did not touch. I really had to overpack the reel with grease to prevent the handle from moving. Good luck.
  2. Cool. Will give it a try. Just ordered some Penn grease.
  3. Yup. Packed grease will slow down the motion so the rotor doesn’t turn while casting but I think it will still be smooth. Seems to be the go-to solution for this problem. I contacted Penn but they haven’t responded.
  4. The knob is in the 7 o'clock position. The roller is to the left of my casting finger.
  5. Thanks for the replies. The grease sounds like a good solution. I suppose I should use Penn grease?
  6. Greetings all. Was able to try out my new bailess Penn 4500 yesterday and while its overall a fantastic little reel, I did notice a bit of a problem. When I raise my arm to cast and the reel is in motion, I notice the handle and rotor will sometimes move. This would sometimes allow the roller to come back around and catch my line mid cast. We all know what that means. The handle and roller are in the correct positions before casting. I have other bailess reels including a 706 greenie where this problem does not occur. Does anyone else experience this with the newer Penn bailess reels. Any solutions to this or did I just get a lemon? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. There were two guys lighting up the beach Sunday morning near Jacob Riis. Very annoying. I think they walked the whole beach with their headlamps on. These guys were clueless. The sun started coming up and these jerks still had their headlamps on.
  8. Thanks for the info. That sucks. I thought it was accessible since they opened the beach to the public over the summer.
  9. Greetings all. Was wondering if anyone's had any luck around those jetties this season. So far its been average west of there. Is it worth a morning to try? Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks for the tips. I've been pretty successful west of Riis during pre and first light hours with tins, spoons and bucktails. It will be my first time fishing Riis so just wanted to make sure the parking lot isnt gated after hours. I do have the Gateway fishing permit on my vehicle for clearance.
  11. Greetings all. Now that Jacob Riis beach is open, does anyone know what the after hours/night fishing parking situation is? I usually fish Ft Tilden where parking was never a problem by the bunkers but they are still off limits. I know Riis has a huge parking lot for beachgoers, but is it open all night? Thanks in advance.
