  1. I have been looking for a replacement of this rod since I loft the top half in an albie blitz on the last day of the MV Derby. Seeing that nobody can find another rod like this, I was wondering if anyone knew a rod builder who would be willing to match the lower half. It is a 7' early 90's Van Staal light tackle spinning rod with a picture of a bone fish above the grip. The guides are brass/gold colored on the inside and there is blue, maroon, and gold in the wraps. Have any of you seen one of these? I would love to get it fixed being that it was my wife's uncle's rod.
  2. I am looking to start duck hunting for the first time on the upper cape next season and I have a couple ignorant questions. I have been taking some time scouting duck patterns etc especially in the Patuisset to Mashnee Island Areas and yesterday there were puddle ducks everywhere in the ponds, marshes, and bogs (as well as divers in the coves). Today the fresh/brackish area were iced over and there were hardly any mallards or blacks in the area (although I saw blue bills for the first time). My question is whether the cold front moved yesterday's ducks south for good or did they head for a field or clear water somewhere else? Also in this area can you hunt Bassets Island in season? If not where in this area is it allowed if you have a skiff, etc?
  3. I live in Edgartown and fish quite a bit recreationally. Late May early June can be great fishing wise but it is hit or miss in regards to sunshine and warm weather. We actually run an inn on Main St. Called th Jonathan Munroe House. It is a great place however if you are looking for more of a suite type rental the Edgartown Commons is a great value too. Give me a shout if I can help out at all. (*edited -please don't post links or URLs here, we don't allow it - thanks. TimS)
  4. Duly noted. Is there any significant run in the spring or would I be chasing ghosts?
  5. I have read a lot about salters and brown trout in the cape rivers on these forums and have a couple questions that I am hoping you guys can help with. I just moved from the Vineyard back to the cape for the winter and am anxious to try fly fishing for trout. Are there trout year round in Red Brook, Scorton Creek, etc? I took a walk up through Lyman's today and wasn't able to find any fish in the low water. Thanks for helping the new guy out.
