  1. Edited. F-it! Everyone do whatever you want.
  2. Nice rave. I'm sure everyone who reads it will be taking your advice........................ The little bits of truth in your posts are overshadowed by your hardheadedness and paranoia. Canned tuna in a nicoise salad tonight folks.
  3. This isn't just about a single fish. The reason I keep coming back to this thread is because I don't feel that the people who congratulate this guy don't understand that yet.
  4. Maybe your gene pool theory is correct but one thing for sure is that the 1200# tuna was an amazing fish. How do you know that a fish that was taken at 150# could or could not grow to 1200#? Maybe the 1200# fish had different genes or maybe it was just lucky to live that long? Besides being in the right place at the right time why was this such a great kill? He admits that it was dark down there and that he was surprised to find out how big it was. Wouldn't a 1200# fish be easier to hit than a 150# fish? The whole process seems pretty random to me. Great job getting into top physical condition, having enough discretionary income to be able to afford all the trips, and working hard at something but this wasn't a great kill. He got lucky after putting a lot of time into it, training and doing research etc., but the only thing that was great in this scenario was killed illegally and dumped over the side to avoid prosecution. Nice work.

Not really sure if you're trying to make a point here. I think that saying it was a "nice fish" is pretty obvious and a bit of an understatement.

  7. It's a moral issue as much as a legal issue. If he was sure it was a legal fish then why did they dump it, or claim to have dumped it? His friend who is a high level canadian judge made a wishy washy statement about the legality of the whole affair. I will try to find it today.
  8. I read it somewhere that he himself admitted that the huge tuna he shot closer to England got away and the one near Canada fell over the side of the boat and was lost. It's all in this thread or maybe there is a link in this thread somewhere, but all this info comes from first hand reports. I read them a while ago and don't have time to dig them up right now. Some of the articles may have since been taken down due to all the negative attention.
  9. My initial thought when I heard about this "accomplishment" was, "wow, that's awesome"! I can't believe that guy pulled that off! After learning more about the guy and how he has no real intention of properly handling the fish it just seems twisted to me. I don't see any respect of life there and no real appreciation for the amazing creatures that he kills. It's all about himself and how great HE is. Now that he has proven to the world that he can pull this off maybe he will feel that he can stop the senseless killing. Bring the fish to market legally and it's a whole different thing in my opinion.

I don't post to be PC or for everyone on here to be my best friend. I do post to give my opinion on a subject and to help out answering questions whenever I can. Your really going to dislike someone for having an ego. How many posts on here are people talking about they bought this or that because it looks good or because its "the best". I do not see you disliking them for having an ego or being vein. I beg to differ on the ego thing here. Being eye to eye in the water with a 1000+ lb animal takes something special, call it ego call it what you wish. I call it a feeling that you and I will probably never experience. O.K., I sort of understand some of what you're saying but I see those giant fish as treasures not targets. I feel that they belong to everyone and just because someone has the physical ability to kill one doesn't make it right. I would be willing to bet I could put a serious hurting on that guy on dry land but is it right to do it just because I want to? Are we just giving the guy a pass here because it was in a legal grey area? Yes I see a huge difference between guys out there fishing to make a living and following the rules and someone who is a trophy hunter. Yes I also love eating tuna. No, I could never do what that guy does because of physical and moral limitations. If he was going for a world record swordfish knowing that global swordfish populations are in trouble what does that say about the guy? I think that history will have a very negative view of people like him.
  11. What does American obesity have to do with top grading an aquatic species? Care to elaborate? None of the tuna this guy kills gets eaten by humans. Most people that don't like this guy probably don't have a problem with spearfishing in general. I know that I don't really know enough about it to have a strong opinion either way about the sport. I just don't like the mentality of the sawed off French ego maniac guy. Since you're at the top of the food chain and this is still a free country then you have the right to be a fan boy.

French guy was actually going after a wold record Swordfish at the time. Swordfish are getting smaller and smaller and French guys instinct is to try and kill the best one we have left? I would like to see the sawed off little macho man hanging upside down instead off a giant Swordfish.
