  1. Very sad...George will be missed, may he rest in peace...
  2. Definitely one of the best tool I own, a must for those that service many reels.
  3. Go get yourself a gallon of Simple Green and soak the reels in a 5 gallon bucket overnight with the lid on, do 4-5 at a time. It will make breaking them down much easier. Rinse them in some warm water afterwards and take one apart at a time . You will then soak the loose parts again for a couple of hours and scrub them while soaking in Simple Green with a nylon brush or an old toothbrush. I soak the loose parts in a stainless steel colander that I stole from my wife and it fits my bucket perfectly You will then rinse the loose parts and let dry. While assembling the first reel, soak the second loose parts. It seems like a lot of work, but it will get done . For bearings I use Naphtha in a glass jar, or if you want to cut down on the mess, use Peslode cordless tool cleaner, I've been using it for years and it is still my favorite. You will need to remove the shields from the bearings though... Good luck! Just noticed you've mentioned 4/0's I'm guessing 113 and not 113H's...as you know, no bearing on the 113H's Sal
  4. Hey Keith. I just noticed SOL removed my pics on the upgrade from our other site. The moderators should have a meeting on this type of actions, I believe they're shooting themselves on the foot...just my opinion of course. Best, Sal
  5. As Keith has mentioned that reel will do just fine as is. You could upgrade the drags if you really wanted to,but you will need to get creative on cutting your own carbon fiber washers. Bryan on ******.com offers the ultimate drag upgrade for the 750-7500SS, but not yet for the 650-6500SS . These upgrades are good for making the reel much smoother when fighting the fish. the conversion is 5 washers instead of 3. I have done some upgrades on my 650SS on the anti reverse dogs and ratchet, these are stainless steel: * Motive Fabrications has one of my 650SS, he will be making us Titanium dogs and ratchets when he gets a chance. The 650Ss could handle these upgrades a little better than the 6500SS, but both are great reels. As mentioned above, clean yours and go fish, it will do just fine. Try not to get too much oil or grease on the ratchet, or the fins on the dog won't work properly, I do recommend changing the drag knob to the later style. Best, Sal
  6. Glad it worked out for you Mark. John's work is valuable to many of us...thank you mr Tuttle
  7. To test the bearings I use a chopstick to hold it as I spins, a pencil will also work. For cleaning, pulling the shields could be hard, some like to replace them, I usually take them off on one side and toss them. Here is the tools I use, these require just a little pressure, no hammering: http://******.com/index.php?topic=1971.msg10129#msg10129 I would then use this product https://www.amazon.com/PASLODE-219384-12OZ-CRDLS-Cleaner/dp/B004BGBB5W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494125489&sr=8-1&keywords=paslode+cleaner I've been using it for the past 5 years and wouldn't use anything else. The products mentioned above will also do a great job, but personally, i just can't take the smell. Spool bearings usually get greased, if you're going with oil, you wouldn't go wrong with TSI 321 as Handy2 has mentioned. Sal
  8. You might also want to make sure your drag washers are set in correctly.
  9. Keith, Michael lucked out with the gears, just as you did A nice set of steel gears. In case some members here wanted to give it a shot upgrading, here are the double dogs on the 16/0 and from the front side and the insert kit Nice rod accompanying that reel Michael, have fun with it. Sal
  10. handy2 is correct! I've tried it myself a while back and it doesn't last very long. Get yourself a used handle on the big auction, you should be able to find one for that reel for around $5.
  11. Thanks for the info George, nice talking with you. Sal
  12. George, I have never seen the spool shaft that Mike is showing on the 722. Do you happen to have one and could you let me know the year it was introduced or replaced? Thanks! All my 720 and 722 have the spool shaft that Mike is showing on the blue reel, it is the same part for both reels. Sal
  13. Hey buddy, you might be thinking of another reel, as the 704,or 706. The washers for the 711 are 56-710 old SKU,The new SKU is 1183907. The metal washers (2) are 57-710 and the octagon washer is 58-710. these washers are tiny. You are spot on with the drag knob. TipUp, over by Alan Tani, we have been upgrading the spinfisher from (3) stack washers to (5). this option has been doing great for us. unfortunately, there is no kit available for your reel, washers are just too small. To fit (5) washers in your stack, they need to be .50mm in thickness, that's the metal and carbon fiber. I have done a couple of kits for two members here, I've done it more for smoothness than additional drag, I'm getting feedback and they love them. Honestly, in your case, I would order fresh washers, replace the knob with the one that Keith recommended and call it a day. Making your own washers is a lot of work. Sal
