October 15 on is the most overrated time of year for striped bass fishing in the northeast, IMO. Sure, there's a few popup blitzes here and there later on, but the so called "fall run" has always begun for me just before Labor day and is mostly done by Columbus day or so. This has been the case since I started fishing in the mid/late 80's.
This year the canal was quite good from mid August-mid September, then all downhill since if you ask me. We typically get a second push of real good fish here between 9/20 and 10/7 or so which never materialized.
