Email's on the way AJ, never fished with ya before, hope to see ya on the south side this fall

Even crazier here in NY Jim, a station is not allowed to sell gas unless ther is a certified handler on premises, yet most now are all self serve, the "cerified handler" sells cigarettes and candy in the convenience store and the untrained motorists pump their own gas completely unattended! Usually also as you said little to no knowledge of the english language

Brian, does it list specs on the box, head length and grain wt? My 8wt likes to throw shooting heads,I might want to try one, let us know how you like the line when you've cast it a few times.

My Abu's are either made in Sweden or they ain't mine...
Better start learnin the words to the Chinese National Anthem

Brian, for years I've fished only 705's and 707's, this year I'm fishing a VS250. It's a solid reel, well built, with all the little refinements we wished Penn would have introduced on the Z series reels. But IMO it won't do all that much more than I've done with a 705Z, and when you factor in the cost of both, well... the choice is yours. Either reel gives you great reliability in adverse surf conditions, it comes down to how badly you want one or how you prioritize your fishing budget

And I thought the handful of pikies I'm fortunate enough to fish with that were built by Tagger and DMacleod were the greatest invention since sliced bread
Can't wait to see the pics

The one you want is the Rio DC versatip system with the 26ft heads...the more common offerings with the 15ft heads are useless. It's available with an intermediate running line. Purchased one this year for my 8wt, it's phenomenal. The running line shoots and handles very well, and while one of the 3 sinking heads it came with was way too heavy for the 8wt, it flies on the 10 wt. Gonna outfit the spare spools of all the other outfits with one this winter.

Any 7000/7500 series Abu will work fine...
went with the bigger Avet JX on my 1509, like heavier mono on really snotty days, you can squeeze 300yds 30lb on a full spool

Bump...nobody?
A nice backup 704 just in time for the fall run!

Welcome to the bum foot club
Squeezed some waders over my broken toe on Saturday for awhile, still uncomfortable but getting better.
Gotta be able to strap on the korkers soon
-
NRS makes a pretty good one for a reasonable price, gasketed neck and sleeves, but the cheaper version is nylon and can get pretty uncomfortable on a warm day.

Luxor 300-very clean-original condition still w/bail assy $75
704Z-black body/gold handle-like new-has green spool-don't ask how that came about, I don't remember $50
Pickup local or add few bucks shipping

The tires are pretty warm when you come off the beach, usually 3-4psi over the pressure you want when airing up will get the desired cold psi...experiment a little, every tire/truck is different.

Saved some vacation time so it's 3 day weekends in Montauk from mid sept to the end of Oct, that's if my broken foot heals so I can get into waders and korkers in time...worst fear is the wife, not the weather
-
All mine get tank tested in the pool, preferably when the wife isn't home...she's always moaning something about sharp hooks being thrown at the pool liner! Women

I put an Avet JX on my 1509 this season and love it, line capacity is plenty at 350yds 25lb Big Game.Real easy to mag and very tame once done, it's a sweet reel with a great drag...
-
It's so easy to whip a loop why bother with anything questionable...
-
Haven't fished in a week and a half...since I broke a toe on my right foot
Squeezing into a bootfoot wader is out of the question for awhile, but it is too damn hot right now anyway!

I wasn't laughin at ya Spig, I was laughin at how you were cursin the bluefish in Italian while you got another sluggo rigged up for em

Brian, if you're not certain about putting braid on then try one of the new copolymer lines, best ones I've used are Suffix Tritanium and Suffix Seige, they are very limp with little memory, they give up very little in casting distance to braid. And they spool and handle like traditional mono. I've never liked handling braid and never liked the way any of em spool up or cast on my 705's so I stay with the Suffix for the bulk of my reels...no complaints.

The ASRS100M2 is the Avid series, the best blank they make for plugging is the 3SRS100M, 10ft 1piece on the upgraded SC4 graphite...it's rated 3/4 oz thru 4oz but IMO 3oz is the upper limit for leaning on it hard. I have two and like the action better than the 10ft Lami's, but the blank will cost you just as much as a 10ft Lami if you can find it and it's nowheres near as strong as a 1201M, if bigger plugs are your thing, a 1201M, otherwise it's a great blank.

Light first coat just to penetrate and position the materials, while still tacky crease and add the eyes, gill markings, best time to add a single strand of flash or material as a lateral line while tacky, light 2nd coat also, much easier to manipulate the shape. Experiment with different body shapes to get different movement in the water, ie a bulbous head gives it a jigging action like a clouser, an hour glass shape when viewed from the top gives it a slight wiggle on a slow steady strip. The possibilities are endless

How cold does it really get, even early November?
I think it's 90 ft and if I take the time to stretch it all carefully I can toss the whole thing...I have a Teeny night line but it doesn't cast nearly as well as the Lumalux, try it, you'll love it.
What's another 50-60 bucks in an already big dollar inventory of fly lines
Octane Speculation

Octane rating and fuel efficiency are not directly related. In simple terms octane rating is resistance to burn. High heat, heavy load, high compression racing engines require higher octane fuel to prevent pre-ignition and detonation. You wouldn't see any MPG increase with higher octane fuels, todays vehicles don't have the compression ratio to require it, and in cold weather could actually lead to flooding and hard starting in a passenger car.
