  1. Thanks for the input guys, hey Squid, wasn't knockin the 706, still fish em as my primary reels and love em, but it is an ancient design and in my experience a hassle with braid. Now about that pink Ande bro,it won't win any distance casting prizes but it pulls big fish out of the boulder fields and kelp beds in Montauk without ever lettin me down,so...
  2. I'm with Gad on this one, had the same thread separation with metallics when run through a thread tensioner, you have to apply the tension to the spool, not the thread itself.
  3. and that was meant to imply what, that you never fished a real surf spinning reel? Appreciate the input buddy!
  4. Sci Anglers intermediate striper line w/AST coating, the surf blue color disappears in the water pretty well and it shoots beautifully...
  5. Surprised nobody mentioned Bauer, the original large arbor reel manufacturer and comparable to the Abel's and Tibor's IMHO, at a good price. I use an M4 and an M5 and both are light , smooth, and have a cork drag capable of snapping a surf chunking rod in half. I've fished a buddy's Abel and it's a super reel, but no better than a Bauer.
  6. No swivel means lots of line twist, wind knots, not what you need in the dark of night...which is why I build all my surf rods with a BPLT20 tip, if you crank it in it just shakes right back out effortlessly, a must IMO.
  7. Billy, count me in when you place an order...
  8. I don't need any bricks, but if any rod blanks are in the way of the new baby you know I'm just around the corner...congratulations, good luck Dave!
  9. Dave, heard you and the boys banged em good last weekend, hope ya left some for me...any large?
  10. Beautifully done...like the colors
  11. Just windin down a home improvement project that took the contractor 6 WEEKS instead of the 2 weeks they promised! Been takin up alot of my time, gonna try and hit Montauk this weekend, hey Spig, hows the fly rod action treatin ya, love to hook up one day and swing the long wand!
  12. GOS, best of luck to ya buddy, hang tough...after smoking for more than half of my 44yrs gave em up cold turkey 6 days ago, so far so good, we'll see...
  13. I have a 2pc Star 86MS, 8 1/2ft, cork tape handle, fuji reel seat, pac bay hialoys, mint condition, perfect for the weights you want to throw.... if interested pm me back
  14. if you have trouble controlling the dremel a sharp hacksaw. like BC said, works everytime, and almost no chance of damaging the blank..
  15. The composite Rainshadow 1208 is a good blank well in the price range, but it should probably be limited to 3 ounces ...
  16. Just be sure to give the wraps a few good coats of waterbase cp before finishing, they'll take on a look all thier own after a few casts....signature wrapwork baby
  17. I sympathize with you brother, the way us lefty's are discriminated against just because we're mentally superior and all, they must think nobody with a brain goes fishin!!! Seriously though, the 705 is a rare bird these days, only seen 1 on ebay in the past year(thank GOD I won it too!!)...probably be easier to wait for production startup and buy the van klunker. Good luck with the search
  18. I'm in...black
  19. Yeah Chicky, how about splittin em...with me!
  20. Pro's and con's to both...the braid gives you better sensitivity and hook set, plus maybe a slight increase in casting distance, but it can be tricky to tie good knots and is susceptible to wind knots and tangles, not all spinning reels are braid friendly. You really have to try it out for awhile and decide which you prefer. Good fishing...
  21. I generally go with a thin leader and a very small plug/teaser combo because the fire greatly exaggerates the size of your offering, have had mixed results, better than no results at all...
  22. Dave, Mud Hole carries a full line of Rice thread, check em out...
  23. Mike, check your PM's...
  24. If the reel was properly serviced and didn't drop directly in the sand; tighten drag, rinse, shake dry, loosen drag
  25. Only time it should be spiked and not in hand is to change bait or take a break, unless you fish a squidder...
