  1. I decided not to sacrifice any more weekends of the kids summer as I venture into another science experiment. I took it to Port Monmouth Marine. Should have been a no brainer since I couldn't get it started at my house. Murphy's law came into play, and the engine started every time at the shop. Kind of hard to fix a system that works. They don't think it is the coil, as it is unlikely both cylinders would go down (dual coil). They checked the system and suspect the ignition switch or safety lockout. I was shown the harness under the cowling to disconnect the remote controls and how to jump it (3 inch wire) to start. So if I end up with a dead engine, I can bypass the remote controls and start the engine. To kill it, just disconnect the fuel line. So at least I have a path forward and when if fails again, I can isolate the problem.
  2. Gents, Thanks for info. I can't get the engine started now, which certainly helps with the trouble shooting. I haven't looked yet, but I'm sure it is electrical. The on-line manuals will be a great help but I looked at my engine, and it is an Evinrude, not Mercury. Don't ask me where that brain fart came from! I'll look to see if I'm getting a spark. If not, I'll take a look at the coil. Any quick test for a coil? Cheers!

  4. I have a 40 hp 1992 Mercury that runs well. Last two trips, the motor would not start after the boat was unloaded from boat trailer. After trying awhile at the dock, the motor started and ran well the rest of the day. Fine at idle, WOT, restarting. The second time, motor worked well, but died at dock at end of day, and I could not restart. I checked the water separation filter (oil can type), but no water was in it at all. Any thoughts on troubleshooting?

  13. Does admission cover all three days, or do you pay each day separately? I would stop by after work on Friday, but not if I have to pay again for either Saturday or Sunday.
  14. I'm in. Thanks!
