  1. hatteras/ocracoke island -fish caught from surf/pier - cobia, king mackeral, spanish mackeral, striped bass, false albecore, bluefish, red drum, black drum, sheepshead, spade fish, triggerfish, speckled trout, pompano, flounder, sea mullet (kingfish), spot, croaker, blowtoad (puffers), have i forgot any?? (most can be caught during the summer, just have to know where, when, how, what) pretty clean beaches, most fishermen/women pick up trash not only theirs, we are the stewards, not the enviros. water cleanliness?? don't think they even have to test it (not sure here) family vacation?? well, this is a fishing site so..... hatteras/ocracoke island is NOT like the jersey shore nor does it want to be. hard to find an open restaurant after 10pm. no chains, not much in entertainment, not many hotel/motels mostly rental homes. rental companies try to rent to family groups (no kids) for twentysomethings it must be horrible, for me it's paradise.
  2. kiptopeke - fishing from pier no saltwater license is needed ($3 day/adult, $1 children) you do need a license if your fishing from the shore http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/kip.shtml cape charles pier - the town purchased a saltwater recreational pier fishing license to cover those fishing from the pier, so individual licenses are not necessary http://www.mrc.virginia.gov/vsrfdf/capecharles.shtm
  3. cape charles and kiptopeke both have piers that are 24 hours. kiptopeke produces big flounder (18.5 keeper). croaker, sea mullet, and spot can be had on shrimp, squid, or bloodworms. at night trout and small blues by the lights. you don't need a fishing license to fish kipto, but need to pay parking and pier fee. cape charles pier is free and has a blanket fishing license.
  4. you can always try the bonner bridge at oregon inlet, there's catwalks on either side at the south end with available parking. the ocean and sound are an easy walk and can be very productive.
  5. drum point by the marker buoy is an excellent place, 20 yards from shore it drops off rather deep. used to fish out there years ago and would rarely get skunked.
  6. just registered to the site but have been following your tales and lies... i go down to hatteras quite frequently and everytime i drive by your speck spot i take a look to see who's fishing. couple weeks as i'm driving by i see a honda with mass plates and a guy out there and i think SIM! had good luck at 55 with blues in the am, heard of spanish but never saw one, hope you had better luck than me. btw, have you tried mack daddy's in avon? one of the most underrated restaurants in obx.
