If I go to Morehead city are there places to wade/bank fish that aren't the surf? Like sound/tidal areas? I'm a little intimidated by surf casting

I usually go to Morehead city NC to catch the albie rush, but I'm short on cash this year. I would like to go down sometime this month or next and hopefully catch some reds. I don't have any clue where to go. Obviously due to my cash flow issue I won't be on a boat, so i would have to wade fish from the shore. Does anyone have any suggestions?
