  1. Any problems with yours? Where are you located? Mine comes in original bag. No box. Serviced in Dec. 2022. Mechanically 100%. A few scratches. New 20# braid.
  2. Sorry. Ill post pic in a little while.
  3. Did you question Don on any of your 'expert theories' when you bought the plugs from him? Knowing Don, he would have taken the time to explain his reasoning to you. Why trash him on an SOL forum (that he is not a party to), when you could have simply asked him in person. Seems to me that Don's integrity is not the issue here.
  4. This is how rumors start. Someones expert opinion based on speculation. The torpedoes were built and painted by Don. Period. I was over Don's house a number of times pre-pandemic; when he was working on these torpedoes. Don painted these torpedoes. The mackeral patterns were painted first. He showed me the progress. I asked if he could make scallop pattern because the collectors love it. He was happy with the scale patterns on his 'lipless swimmers' and decided that he would make 'exotics' for the collectors. The reason that they're made of maple is that Don only had the 'deep lips' and wanted them to be accurate. The scallop and mackeral patterns were always popular with the collectors and he decided to make 'scaled scallops'. Don is one of the most anal guys that I know and would never allow anyone else to paint anything that he is signing. Anyone who got one of these torpedoes should hold onto it because Don is 88 years old and probably won't be making anymore. I was with Don yesterday and he said that he would be bringing whatever he has left to a Jersey show. He wasn't sure which show. I never thought that I would have to speak up to defend Don; but this thread has taken a turn. My opinion is: that at 88 years, Don Musso's body of work stands alone, as the best Salt Water lure maker. Comparable to Stan Gibbs.
  5. Trying to identify the builder of these 7", 3.1 oz. Darters. The pink one has 'pac-man' eyes; which you don't see very often. Got these over 10 years ago and just found them in a storage box. Thanks for your help. B
  6. I knew one of you 'old timers' would know. Hope life is treating you well Mr Mc. Thank you.
  7. Going thru some boxes of lures. I just came across 2; that I can't remember who built. They are both approx. 6 1/2" long and weigh approx. 2 3/4 oz. I usually keep track of my stock; but these 2 fell thru the cracks. I think that I bought them here 15 years ago or so. Any leads would be helpful. Thank you.
  8. Ah, yes. The 'rainbow coalition wetsuit'. I'm still laughing. My brother Thom and John Byrnes were there also. We ragged on him so much that he only wore it once. I reminded him about that wetsuit on a regular basis. Another fun thing was, we would put pebbles in beer cans and put them in his cooler rack. He would swear that the rattling was his engine. Good times! We had alot of fun.
  9. Wow! This thread brings back alot of memories! Thank you, Scott for alerting me to this thread. Leif, Vito & Frankie; it was good seeing you last night. We'll always have a few shared bass under our belts. Georgie Wade was a good friend; who had a unique way of showing that he loved you. I think that the nicest thing that he ever said to me was: "Bobby, You catch some big bass, for a guy who doesn't know how to f**king cast!" He would never stop ragging about, how terrible I cast. I still do. Kenny and him would meet me at West End 2; to give me lessons. I still have a 4.5 oz darter and x-heavy pencil popper that he made for me, so I could reach the bar. I prided myself on being able to fish 2 tides; but George and Kenny never stopped. Vito's poem hits the nail on the head. But Georgie was a grouch with a heart of gold. He would invite me to his house in Deer Park and show me how his plugs swam in the pool. When I would tell him about salt water being denser than fresh water, he would say: "Go f**k yourself". The night that I caught the fish that won the '97 Montauk Locals contest; I showed the fish to George & he said: "I'm so proud of you; you're going to shove this fish up the locals a**es! You weren't born here, so you'll never be a local" Him and Pope gave me a cooler full of ice to keep it from losing weight. Leif, you were always his favorite and George never denied it. I have to see if I can dig out the plugs that he made for me. The eye-brows are classic. Leif, thank you for starting this; it's long overdue. Peace/out!
  10. Don painted and signed these about 3 years ago. He had the bodies laying around the basement and decided to give the collector's a treat. B
  11. Hey Steve Great to see you're on the board again. Hope that your re-hab goes fast. Stay focused and get better, we need you. Bob
  12. Steve is a tough old dog and we need him back to run with the pack.
  13. Terrible news. Keep Steve in your prayers. I hope Steve has a speedy recovery and rebounds from this setback; good as new. Get better my friend. B
  14. Hey Steve. Good eye. I don't have a basement like you did; so I have crap everywhere. Bottom one. Has scales if you can see them
  15. This post has really become interesting over the years. I thought that I sold off my Danny Pichney collection years ago; when I started collecting Russo's, Masterlure's, Kenden's and the like. Well, while looking for something in a closet this weekend; much to my surprise, a box with 34 Pichney's in it. I obviously have a bigger problem than I thought. Take a look.
  16. I am making one last post in this thread. If you are into the history of surf fishing on the east coast, I highly recommend attending the SWLCC annual show. It is the only place where you can see the history of the sport that we love. You can talk to the experts about what they collect. I am attaching a picture of 2 baits. The top bait is an original Chas. Russo squid which I'm lucky enough to own and the bottom is my cherished copy of the same squid which was painfully replicated by Steve Sylver (Capesams). I won the original in an auction and got the copy from Steve at one of our shows. I cannot say which one that I prefer; they both blow me away. Steve is my favorite modern builder. He will beg, borrow and steal to get it right. Peace/out!
  17. Our club is only as good as the people who participate and bring something positive to the table. Like most people, I can find fault with management; no matter what the sport or hobby. I've been a member since the very beginning and a contributor to our website and Facebook group. I do not know who most of you are; because you are shielded by your SOL handles. I'm not at all sure what anyone is saying about lures being restored and then being misrepresented to sell at a profit is actually happening. I'm 74 years old & haven't ever seen lures misrepresented at our annual show. At 74, I am not interested in managing anything. I don't have the energy or desire to lead. Like babanch said: run against the current managers if you think that you can do better. Having been both president and vice-president of the Farragut Striper Club, I can tell you that it's a thankless job. As a famous philosopher once said: "Haters gonna hate". Maybe if people used their real names, instead of handles; their opinions might be more tempered. I hope to make our show in May and hope to see you all there. B
