    Fishin.
  1. Thats a last ditch option for me - I don't mind traveling a bit. I am thinking Ken Lockwood Gorge, maybe some of the smaller streams closer to here. I know there is some around but still haven't researched, might be hopping on the laptop after the film fest here...
  2. Thanks for all the tips on this one guys. As it was about 12 degrees before the 30 mph wind, I didn't really get to cast too much Hope all is well. Jim
  3. Hey all, how are ya? Im @ the Somerset show and am looking for recommendations on rivers - just rivers, not your top secret places - to fish a for few hours tomorrow or Sunday. Please advise! Thanks! PS heading to the film fest tonight and will be looking for a beer after. Call 718-909-0148 or email jcaroll@gmail.com if you're up for it. Best, Jim
  4. Hey all Wifey and I decided on a whim to drive out to MTK this weekend. I had some old hotel credit burning a hole in my pocket. I brought my gear primarily with the thought of just getting in the surf and practicing some casting, but is there any actual fishing to be had?? Any body been out? Cheers, Jim
  5. Hey All. Im heading to Somerset show on Friday and am going to stay through until Sunday. Anybody want to fish a bit on Saturday afternoon while the show is packed? Send me a PM!
  6. Hey thanks! I'll let you know how it turns out!!
  7. Hello all I am heading to Westbrook CT tomorrow for a friends wedding on Friday night. I have Saturday and Sunday to try to squeeze some fishing in. My wife will be there but doesn't mind if I disappear before first light and make it back around 10 to cook breakfast Any quick tips on where I can get into some surf or river fishing with my 8 or 10 wts? Anything by a beach where the wife can park herself on a blanket with a book is perfect. She has accepted the fact that we will never travel anywhere ever again without a fly rod in my luggage. I'll need a license as well... Thanks guys. Jim
  8. I've lived in NYC for 6 years, I just find myself heading north a lot more often than east I will however be in Montuak this weekend and would gladly allow any of you to show me around to all of your favorite spots PM me /or/ jcaroll@gmail.com /or/ 718-909-0148
  9. Thanks very much for all of the greetings. Looking forward to it. JC
  10. Very nice. Ever get up to the area around Lake Chateaugay?
  11. Well done on the Dory! I could have used one in the boat out in Lee's Ferry. Got snagged up while casting a giant awkward double nymph dropper rig more than once. Thanks for the info. JC
  12. Hello all Im Jim C. Some times Jim, Sometimes Im James, you can call me either. I am originally from Buffalo NY but live in Brooklyn now with my wife and our Great Dane puppy of 9 months. I own a business in the city and my wife works down town in the banking bizz. I have been fishing primarily freshwater my whole life, with the exception of stripers on the Cape with my Grandpa once in a while. I started over summer vacations in the ADK's lakes and streams every summer as a kid. A few years ago before my wife and I were married, her old man set me up at a Fly Fishing school in their home town in the Catskills and I never looked back. Last year I went to the Caribbean, St John USVI to be exact, and I discovered how much I love the salt. Today I fish the Catskills regularly and get out to the salt when ever I can. So, heres my joke - its a classic where I come from, so I hope some of you haven't heard it: -- Two old friends are drifting through a pool close to a bridge that carries the local interstate over the river. They look up just as a funeral procession begins its way across the bridge. As the procession nears the center of the bridge, one of the men stands up, removes his cap, and with a tear beading in the corner of his eye, he bows his head in respect. The procession crosses the bridge and the man returns his cap to his head, picks up his rod and begins casting again. His friend looks at him from across the boat and says, "That was touching Frank. I didn't know you had it in you." Frank responds, "It was the least I could do, after all we were married for nearly 40 years." -- Cheers, James
  13. Patagonia duffles are nice - and on sale now at Red Truck.
  14. Thanks - I kind of thought so. And yes on Cabellas - sold out. It has been discontinued. Bummer because I have yet to see a bad review...
  15. Easy sure, but cumbersome and not very technical for walking & climbing through sand and rocks...
