  1. You should rinse spectra occasionally and it's also a good idea to keep an eye on your spools so here's my solution. $5.00 E cord reel. Easy. I drilled a few small holes in the center rim so water will flow through better.
  2. I got a couple longfin on a Mega Bait Live Jig.
  3. Shozaburo Shimano started making bike parts in the early 1920's. The fishing tackle division was started in the 1970's by the Shimano family who were and are avid fisherman. They started a golf line in the late 90's. It's a third generation family owned business; A VERY large family business......
  4. I have one. They work as advertised. It takes a bit of skill to get a nice even stitch, but that's up to the user not the tool.
  5. Just about any beach in Baja can hold fish on a given day. Down near Cabo, Rangers work pretty well for roosters but you may make 100 casts for 1 fish........ Upgrade the hooks; Look for working birds and be willing to RUN down the beach... Most fish down there have teeth and will tear up plastics but they get bit very well, especially white. Many of the lures available in our hosts store will work VERY well. Krocs and other easily heaved chrome also work well and Gulp is very effective. As warm as the water is, a couple poppers would probably be a good thing for the tackle bag as well... Are you stuck in Cabo? It's very citified these days and if you want really good shore fishing you'll do much better 20 miles or more outside of town in either direction. Rent a car which is cheap or hire a driver. Late October is probably THE BEST time to be down at the tip..... When you get there you should stop by Minerva's. I'd post her site but I don't want a spankin' Let me know if you have more questions.... Buena Suerte
  6. We had one for a few years. Pretty easy to put together; especially if you know the tricks. Amazingly seaworthy and stable. Really a fun little boat for bay fishing etc. if you need something extra stowable and portable. There's a couple forums devoted to them.
  7. Jack pole fishing is done with jigs shaped like this. White chicken feathers were the norm on the jigs used in the old rack boats. Just enough hook to hold them under pressure.
  8. Those are skipjack in the first video.
  9. I would say Bolsa Chica near HB is probably your best bet. The rig is my own. Put a loop in the end of the line with a surgeons knot leaving a long tag, cutting the loop at the knot. The grub goes on the tag end coming out the top and the leadhead on the other end. I'm using 6 or 8 lb, the lead head's are 1/4 or 3/8ths oz. and the hook is a #6 baitholder with 1.5" grub. I straighten the slight kirb out of the baitholder's so the grub won't spin. Good Luck.
  10. SWIMPAL and I have a pair of Revo's. The Mirage drive is AWESOME; I could never go back to a paddle for a fishing 'yak. The drive is easy to put in and take out and when it's in, the blades are essentially flush with the bottom of the hull at the end of the peddle stroke. The only place the drive doesn't excel is real weedy spots. I fish in the kelp with no trouble at all. It's a robust bit of gear and repairable but not cheap to replace. We are seriously thinking about getting the i14T two seat inflatable for travel......
  11. Tell me where you are staying so I can get a better idea what direction to point you. Really no such thing as spot burning here in So Cal. It's hard to have secret spots with so many people...... The long rods are typically used by bait and wait fisherman out here. Most of the usual targeted species you'd want to catch are in fairly close to the shore. My most often used rig is an 8'6" steelhead rod, fishing a grub/swimbait combo on 6 or 8 lb. Corbina, the most sought after and wiley of the several croakers in our surf, will swim right up onto the sand looking for mole crabs, which is their preferred bait. They are strong fighters and really excellent table fare. The water is very warm right now and the fishing has been great, you picked a real good time to come. FYI You need a license to fish off the beach or jetties but no license is required for fishing from public piers.
  12. The tuna have come in real close so the 3/4 day boats which usually go to the islands are instead going offshore and getting good numbers of tuna, yellowtail and dodo's. You won't need more then a couple live bait rigs and maybe a surface iron rod if you are into slingin' the jig......
