    Surf fishing, camping, family,
  1. may want to try fishing around the bodie island light house, can launch by the big prop at oregon inlet fishing center and paddle towards the light house. I've received reports of nice sized stripers being caught in that area, would keep away from the inlet, there is a nice slough be the base of the bridge also... have also caught some stripers around the pilings at the old mann's harbor bridge. Great luck!
  2. I make a point of going to the Red Drum Tap Room in Kitty Hawk whenever I'm in the OBX, Guinness Stout on tap, hmmmmmm.
  3. I just got back yesterday for a day trip. I put out on the sound side of pea island. Only thing I caught was bait! Hope to get out to the oceanside this weekend, probably between rodanthe and buxton.
  4. Planning on heading out to the coast next week, anyone planning a trip?
  5. I'll be at the coast next fri, around wrightsville beach area. Planning to do some Kayak fishing, any suggestions on where to put in?
  6. I'll be at a meeting in the wilmington area on sat next week, thinking of leaving early friday to do some fishing, any lead on where to put in?
  7. I fished off assateague (ocean side) in the yak about 2 weeks ago. Casted for blues caught 4 on the first 4 casts (1-2 lbs). Fish were located just prior to the breakers (from the outside). I was using a spoon (johnson sprite knock-off) and a hopkins. Spoon worked better. Tried bouncing grubs on the bottom for flatfish, no luck. Went to the sound side no luck. Good luck and keep your eyes on the sets coming in, I got a little close.
  8. Sounds great. How did you get over by boat? Was it your own or a private ferry service? Weekend before last I paddled over to bear island from Hammocks Beach State park. The route is pretty well marked and v.little boat traffic. Was just a day trip a 2.5 mile paddle one way, lots of tidal creeks to mess around in. Only catch was a small flounder but was able to catch some live bait with a cast net, unfortunately no takers. Shackleford Banks sounds good.
  9. I got the hatch cover from my swing at the nantahala outdoor center (noc). They were pretty easy to deal with and got it about 1 week after the phone call. I think it cost about $30 give or take a couple.
  10. I plan on making the trek to the coast this friday, considering obx, any suggestions on where to go and anyone want to hook up? (I only use barbless hooks!).
  11. I'm planning a weekend trip to the coast with the family and am trying to get some yakfishing in. Don't want to go as far as obx, looking at wilmington area. Any folks with tips on locations (looking for < 3hrs from Raleigh). Thanks!
  12. Got the swing from a chain in NC called great outdoor provisions. They carry various perception stuff but not the swing. They ordered one in firecracker red for me. I failed to realize the initial investment beyond the yak. Racks, paddle, pfd, and I still haven't rigged it for fishing. Scotto, did you place a seat in yours? What did you use? Thanks and can't wait to wet a line. I figure I won't start drilling holes and screwing stuff into it until I get a feel for fishing in it.
  13. Just picked up a perception swing yesterday and noticed two brass nuts molded in the plastic behind the cockpit. Do these serve any useful purpose? Also can anyone recommend a backrest that fits well with this setup? Thanks and gotta add this page provides great info and laughs. If doesn't get any better than that!
  14. Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate the insight. The sites great and I'll continue to visit, thanks guys.
  15. Thanks for the replies, I'm in north carolina. I'll do the search, have been searching mostly for tandems. There's a Kayak shop in the raleigh area that I visited but gotta rent to try. I haven't seen many used yaks around. The initial investment is what's keeping me from getting two. And being fiscally minded (cheap) I want to get a fair price. Thanks.
