  6. I worked on a fishing boat when I was younger. To keep the boat from rolling to much when drift fishing we would put out the outriggers like Testbait described. Off these would be suspended light 2x3' aluminum plates w/ a bunch of 1 inch holes drilled in them hung down under the water several feet. (boss called it putting out the birds) The outriggers got the plates away from the boat so they had more leverage controlling the roll. (our outriggers were fairly heavy duty) My boss got the idea from watching bigger trawlers running with their trawl net outriggers out when not fishing.
