  1. I double the braid with a bimini and then tie a uni-to-uni for the braid/leader connection.
  2. I've got an '85 21' Mariner. Like the others have said, it's a surprisingly sea worthy boat. Because of the light weight, you do bounce off a lot of waves vs. cutting through them. Mine had all of the issues noted above when I bought it - I completely gutted it and rebuilt it from the bare hull.
  3. Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're working on the steel. The deck, though, is like driving on a giant jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing.
  4. Agree 100%. Fricking ridiculous how much they collect for that bridge and it's in horrible shape.
  5. yup. blue. The vineyard is a tough place to break down. I always bring backup gear when I'm out there.
  6. That screw likes to come out. I lost one and got replacement parts from Red Top. Now I religiously use locktite for that screw on all my slammers every season to make sure I don't lose another.
  7. I've spent many hours on the 23 ft version of that boat - same vintage. Very capable platform.
  8. I wouldn't pay that much for a used Avid. I have a number of St. Croix fly rods - a couple avids, 2 legends, and a legend ultra. The Avid is a perfectly useable saltwater rod - but as a previous poster said, it didn't go for much more than 200 new. See if you can get the guy to come down in price. If not, I'd look into TFO fly rods. their professional series is a great bargain @ around 150.
  9. Glad you're going to be ok. It drives me crazy when I see idiot drivers like this tool who wrecked you on Sat.
  10. My '85 21' Starcraft center console doesn't see fresh water at all. Exclusively used in salt. No corrosion issues. It's a capable boat - good amount of freeboard, - more than I see on many glass boats - and a splash well. As stated previously, you bounce off waves rather than push through them. Trade off is a lighter boat that is cheaper to tow and run.
  11. Thoughts go out to you and your family. My deepest condolences for your loss.
  12. Hard to beat LL Bean's warranty.
  13. I use tiemco serrated. I like them because the handles are a little beefier than slicks - which makes them much easier for me to pick up quickly.
