  1. It happened on the Sandy River right outside of Portland Or actually right around the bend from this picture I took back in March. It was nuts to fish the northwest with a one handed rod trying to wade out far enough to back cast. All the spey fishers just stood one step in the river and could reach literally the whole way across in one swoop. I felt like I was gonna get swept away until I learned to snake cast with a one hander.
  2. Every time I've been to Utah I've stayed in Ogden, about an hour north of Park City. They've got the the Weber (Weeber) and Ogden rivers going right through the city with great access, and can even fish right across from the devils slide. Maybe half an hour north of Ogden is Willards Bay on the Salt Lake that apparently has amazing "wiper" (striped/white bass hybrid) fishing. Also in Ogden is Mt. Ben Lomond, which is the mountain featured in the Paramount Pictures logo. A two hour hike to the top of it or most of the mountains in the area will give you breathtaking views of the Salt Lake and Salt Flats. One of the most beautiful and awe inspiring areas in all of our country. Just make sure you take your "High Point" beer of choice. Following the Weber River through the Weber Canyon A view of the Ogden River (bottom left) from Mt. Ogden. Ice fishing just east of Ogden
  3. I've been using the tfo pro series in 5 and 9 weights and love them, for the price of the rods you can't get much better.
  4. BSD not Linux, which in most cases is a tad bit more secure. to be honest nothing is really secure, the two reasons that a unix based system is more is being the fact that the code has been fixed, patched, upgraded, updated over the past 40 +/- years. and that unix derived systems are used by wiser individuals, people who can and will fix the system if something is not secure or broken in the code. and then that fix will trickle to most every other unix based system. it's true that on open source systems, if something goes wrong a fix can be minutes away. but with a non open source system you may have to wait days or even weeks for a patch. even on some of the earlier multi user systems they're key strokes that everyone knew, and built deliberatly into the system to bring the system down, but 99% of the time this didn't happen. the most basic reality here is that most unix coders aren't going to waste their time writing a program to break a system, and if they were they are only doing it so they can make the system more secure. frankly I'd be more scared that running more than one program at a time on a windows based system due to its crappy memory management is going to cause me more trouble than a website running some active x code
  5. monday to the mouth of the chesapeake. since I've hit skunk central latley, I tied up a few new flies for the endeavor, a few staples and a misconstrued, over sized steelhead fly might do the trick.
  6. Lived in Pittsburgh a while back, decided to go fishing at the point. fought what I thought was a nice sized bass ended up being a old work glove. two cast later thinking I landed the matching glove I reel in a walleye.
  7. Sounds like my story. I might as well buy real estate in skunksville
  8. sucks on the TV too, it seems like I'm watching a game from the late 80s
  9. osx has a built in spell check that works with most programs, including firefox. if you right click (ctrl-click) in any input box make sure check spelling is check marked. also in your firefox preferences there is an option under the advanced-general tab for spell checking. also when you type something wrong you can ctrl-click it and select the word you want to replace it with from the popup menu I've used an apple since the apple IIe days playing Oregon trail and I'm probably the one of the worst spellers to ever come out of public school, no thanks to the Oregon trail.
  10. happened a long time ago www.last.fm
  11. Windy and no fish as well, but we did have Horses!
  12. People say the same thing about Amoroso bread in Philly. I have to say Bob's Pizza in Indiana, PA is the best. Thick, greasy, tasty and about 60 cents a slice.
  13. Being about a stoplight or two away from the bridge, I try to get there everyday. It's been hit or miss with keepers off the bridge, but loads of little guys. The night high tide is usually when I try to get out there. I almost always exclusively use big swim shads, cast out about 10-20 yards, let the tide bring it under the bridge and have a slow retrieve on your way out from under it. If the tides running hard I throw heavy bucktails, if you don't hit the bottom you're never going to catch a rock off the bridge. During the day or slack or low tide head over to stinky beach, its that little strip of beach and rocks to your right if you are looking over towards Assateague, and chunk off of her and you're bound to get something. I never fish the bridge or inlet in the day unless its for tog, so I can't help you out on how to fish that time. I'm actually heading over to the bridge in an hour or so, good luck.
  14. But I spent my election night on the water. no matter who won, we're still going to have the water, the tides and hopefully the fish in them. after all, aren't we all fishermen first and political pundits after? who is with me, saying, "Four more years of better fishing!"?
