  1. The pork producers aka China need to pay. Smithfield and their subsidiaries are killing the sound and the Chesapeake bay. Been doing it the past 50-75 years I say the Chesapeake is around 15% healthy. Same for Omega. there’s a Smithfield nc and Va. go figure. Between commercial fishing, poaching, industry, pollution, and the climate that just isn’t the same and the fish are doomed. We need the underwater grasses, oyster beds, menhaden in the water, better sewage treatment, and better drainage/nutrient control.
  2. We need better everything. Legislators , laws and law enforcement, and on and on from the top down. The shrimp fishery is a big deal down on the OBX. Sound and ocean, just like the bunker fishery bay and ocean in VA. Think about this, they’re killing everything In the sound/cbay in the spring/summer and in the ocean in the fall/winter. They are killing juveniles and adults and no one is counting the bycatch. A lot of the time no one is out at night and nothing to see if they aren’t out there looking. When Florida cleaned up and kicked the commercials out they all came to NC. when I’m drumming at night and the shrimpers are out off the beach it kills the bite. All those fish that should be on the beach are behind the trawlers eating all the dead bycatch if not dead themselves…if I see the shrimpers out there I go 20+ miles away and am usually fish less…even after the move. We need a house cleaning from the top down. The good old boy NC/VA is alive and well and killing the sound and the bay all while enriching a select few and killing the resources and the environment they depend on.
  3. I miss the yellow eyed devils and the choppers that used to come down the beach…never thought I’d miss bluefish but I have the blues for the blues.
  4. Distance from butt to reel seat? Ever make it to RI?
  5. I’m glad everyone is having a nice fall run with the schoolies…length and girth is more accurate 40”fish are approximately 20# 38” is 18# 34” is 15# there were some kids saying fish were big at 30”…my how times have changed
  6. Was at Taylor’s house yesterday. Came off the beach to 4 Westerly police officers. Someone cut the chain and stole their sign. I said officer, there’s no set date they open this beach. Sometimes it’s the Tuesday after Labor Day, sometimes later and ya have to check it everyday. I drove on because it was open. get this…he then says he is gonna take a few pictures of my ride and forward the warning to cmrc. How can you be given a warning for driving an open (to me) beach? I didn’t cut the chain and steal the sign but wish I did….bad cop no donut. access is always a fragile thing but this is getting ridiculous…tickets and citations for legal activity. No real fish…blues under 10# and sea robins. It would be a little more palatable if 20# fish or better were more readily available and accessible. Not everyone has a boat to go to block or the vineyard.
  7. And now if you get anything besides dinks it feels like it’s snowing. Albie fever…I’d rather have the blues of the 80s/90s when it’s been on average 5-15 degrees warmer in the fall…the fishing has suffered it seems. Maybe the fish are taking different southern routes than before. More tropical systems and less nor’easters.
  8. In RI out falls have warmed considerably over the past 15-25 years. It’s more bait and fish oriented…we can’t catch what isn’t there… used to be we had a varying and plentiful bait supply until Nov. no more.
  9. I left the beach by the breachway…as law enforcement said I had to. I then parked in the parking space on the back side of the dunes… was ticketed on private property if the map is correct it seems.
  10. Used to be fall was a magical time of year. The annual bass/blue migration was something amazing. Started in September and lasted to December. we can’t change the weather…
  11. the beach from RIMS property to the breachway is Charlestown…it’s westerly from the rims property west. So the police say… the police also say we aren’t allowed access to the breachway via the sand trail until sept 15z
  12. The Charlestown Police are denying access to the west side of the breachway via buggy. RIMS has had access for as long as I can remember. The homeowners on the east side of the breachway have been complaining about vehicles at the breachway. Now the cops are enforcing rich people’s wrongful complaints. Zero parking along the parking spots behind the dunes. I was ticketed…for accessing the beach the way we always have. I parked in a parking spot behind the dunes and they still gave me a ticket. Do the same at east beach and it’s okay there… be careful fellas…they are on ATVs and their explorer cruisers.
  13. Consistency on large has shrunk…we used to have them from ptown to Chatham, ack, MV, plum, cutty , etc etc etc. we don’t have a healthy stock and haven’t for years. Same thing happened in the 70s/80s in ptown when large were there and block and nothing anywhere else. History is repeating itself on the canal. The NPS, usfws, Asmfc, DMF, and the powers that be are the ones that need correction. Don’t get mad at fisherman for chasing fish. Get mad at the powers that be that have seals overrun every beach. Cull the seals, gulls, dogfish , open the beach back to the 60s/70s. Start a hatchery for the birds. Real enforcement , Bring back the bait and the fish. Celebrate the fisherman, not the bucket brigade.*
  14. We shared many a tides…and more time spent on access than most could imagine. He was a good guy and will be missed. God bless him and his family.
  15. Interested in any trades? Ever make it to ri/Ct/ma?
  16. How about the Rod plus cash for your VS or ZB. Lemmo know what you have. How much is a Rod that is unavailable to buy? Considering the odm or lamiglass availabile right now I’ll say $375. It’s a one piece so meet up. I’m in RI.
  17. I swear there’s more mung, eel grass etc this year than in awhile. Drought? Habitat destruction? Thoughts?
  18. Can you go down to south county and start cleaning up the eel grass? That’s a big help. Thanks
  19. We are both in Rhody too. Luckily Mass is a skip away.Thank you sir for your comment.
  20. Might as well get my rod and reel license in MS and kill as many as I can and get paid for it. Hurry up moratorium. I’m killing as many as possible legally. One a day everyday. Maybe by the time the stock rebuilds fishing will have gotten back to normal too. Bunch of tools out there these days beating their chests for schoolies with headlamps on all night. There’s no hope for these fish. Their managed that way. Same for the ASMFC. Plaques for hacks. The system is broken. These idiots pat themselves on the back while blundering a public resource for the benefit of a few. I’m gonna get my reduction license for menhaden when the bass quota is closed and sell to omega. They need help filling their quota hahaha. I hear flounder is a healthy fishery. I’m gonna start dragging the bottom. Kill everything, it’s all legal.
