  1. I have always bought off the rack. I am buying a Gambit 24 from Conoflex, and need help with the options. First question, What is wipping? Next, where do I want the reel fitting to be positioned? Should I specify what type of grip? Color? Anything else? Help please, I want to order this rod now!
  2. Thanks for all the help! ULUA- Plat.co is a great site! Best prices of all the others (4000-6000 yen cheaper). I am seriously considering the Shimano Super Aero XT. The spool is the only thing that is stopping me from ordering tonight (it looks like a graphite spool). The higher end models look great, but I don't have that kind of yen. The rods are very interesting, but it looks like they are all rated under 2oz? Thanks again everyone for all your help.
  3. I know that this is a loooong shot, but does anyone know where you can order Japanease tackle online? They seem to be about 100 years ahead of what we can get in the USA. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Saw pics of the Daiwa Z45C and the Shimano Aero xt. All I can say is WOW ! How Can I get one, or even more information on the products (in english). Thanks, Mark
  4. I have started about 25 plugs, they are in various states of completeness, but I have not got to the painting phase yet on any. I will be using screw eyes. I have some SS on order, but I have used zink on 10 plugs. Should I remove the zink eyes? I don't think that they will rust? But, they are not very strong. Where can I find a cheap scale that can handle .5 to 6oz? How much weight does paint and 3 coats of epoxy add to the plug (say a 6"X 1" dowel)? Thanks!!!!
  5. Well, Thanks guys. I will get some cedar and try some of the suggested plugs (hope they don't think it's a gar!). The biggest striper that I have seen come out of the Ohio are under 20lbs (I have heard stories of bigger), but there are many in the 10-15lb range. I think that with the extra distance I will be able to get a 20lb+ fish out of there.
  6. First, I love the plugs that I have seen on this board! Great Job! I have started making my own, and once I have completed a few, I will post. I fish the tailwater of a dam on the Ohio river for stripers. This type of fishing is all about distance casting! You need to get 100 yards out. Usually I work Zara Spooks filled with BB's really fast to keep them on top. I need a lure in the 2.5-4oz range that will fly. A floating lure would be a big plus, as I could work them a little slower. Any design ideas? The few lures that I have shaped have sank like a rock (an oz of lead in the tail for weight).Types of wood? (I was thinking of trying oak with a few extra coats of epoxy). Any help would be greatly appreciated, and keep posting those plugs!
