  1. I was surrounded by fish on Tuesday night in a mud flat near the mouth of a tidal river just south of Portland but couldn't hook a thing. From what I could tell they were keyed in on softshell crabs. They were feeding on the bottom and there was a bunch of shedded crab bodies floating in the water.
  2. Consider Saddleback....all the snow that Sugarloaf has in the spring for much less $. If you are going to be there mid-week they have 2 for 1 Wednesday's until the end of the year and other specials. Nice new base lodge and easy to go into Rangeley for other dinner / entertainment options.
  3. This is interesting, I've been fishing a spot that has been yielding a steady stream of pretty good sized fish for the past month or so, today, for the first time we got into some schoolies in the 14" to 18" range (with one nice 32" mixed in). Things were definitely different this morning, hoping it is a postive sign of what is to come.
  4. Things have also picked up for me lately...I didn't have time to stick around for long last night and only managed one fish. But it was 13" longer than anyhthing I've caught before. Catching a 39" inch bass, and releasing it, sure is a rush!
  5. I've got a non-japanese beetle problem, I noticed that my carrots were losing foliage but I couldn't find anything eating them in the day. I went out to look tonight and these was a bunch of these guys munching away. Does anybody know what these are? Sorry about the bad pic quality... And I want to add, I don't post here much but have gotten some great garden tips already...thanks
  6. Take a ferry ride out to Peaks Island (15min ride from Downtown) and either hit the Shipyard Pub up (standard pub fare and some nicer meals, nice setting) or take a cruise around the island (4 mile walk or you can rent bikes). The reggae fest crowd from noon to 6 on Sundays can be, ugh, interesting? Don't forget to bring a beverage to enjoy on the ride over! Google Casco Bay Lines Its an island with a rocky shore line and lots of currents around, so no reason to bring a fishing pole
  7. Sounds like a broken record...same experience for me. Pretty solid start up through Father's Day and then nothing. Hoping it is just the rain and things start to pick back up.
  8. You can try Hinckley Pond in South Portland. It is stocked and is a kids only pond. My nephew caught some sunfish there and a friends kids caught a bass a wek or so ago.
  9. More and more vet practices are becoming Corporate owned. What do you think is motivating the corporate practices? Independents have to try to keep up....
  10. Sorry about the first post, I thought because it was a link it would be OK. Vulgar for sure, but also damn funny. For a joke, hmmm, saw this recently and thought it was pretty damn funny: You remember the Original Hollywood Squares and its comics, this may bring a tear to your eyes. These great questions and answers are from the days when 'Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous and clever, not scripted and (often) dull, as they are now. Peter Marshall was the host asking the questions, of course. Q. Do female frogs croak? A. Paul Lynde: If you hold their little heads under water long enough. Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be? A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it. Q. True or False, a pea can last as long as 5,000 years A. Which of your five senses tends to diminish as you get older? A. Charley Weaver: My sense o f decency. Q. What are 'Do It,' 'I Can Help,' and 'I Can't Get Enough'? A. George Gobel: I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment. Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking? A. Rose Marie: You ask me one more growing old question Peter, and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget. Q. Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather? A. Paul Lynde: Because chiffon wrinkles too easily. Q. Charley, you just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year? A. Charley Weaver: Of course not, I'm too busy growing strawberries. Q. In bowling, what's a perfect score? A. Rose Marie: Ralph, the pin boy. Q. It is considered in bad taste to discuss two subjects at nudist camps. One is politics, what is the other? A. Paul Lynde: Tape measures. Q. Marty Allen: Only after lights out. Q. When you pat a dog on its head he will wag his tail. What will a goose do? A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark? Q. According to Ann Landers, is there anything wrong with getting into the habit of kissing a lot of people? A. Charley Weaver: It got me out of the army. Q. It is the most abused and neglected part of your body, what is it? A. Paul Lynde: Mine may be abused, but it certainly isn't neglected. Q. Who stays pregnant for a longer period of time, your wife or your elephant? A. Paul Lynde: Who told you about my elephant? Q. When a couple have a baby, who is responsible for its sex? A. Charley Weaver: I'll lend him the car, the rest is up to him. Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they? A. Charley Weaver: His feet. Q. According to Ann Landers, what are two things you should never do in bed? A. Paul Lynde: Point and laugh. Q. Back in the old days, when Great Grandpa put horseradish on his head, what was he trying to do? A. George Gobel: Get it in his mouth.
  11. Not sure if this is a good way to make a first post or not, but I think this settles the Smurfs v Snorks debate. Smurfs in a land slide. Has volume, probably not work safe: -------
