Trying Not to Work so I can fish.
  1. What about the Yeti? Anyone like that?
  2. Hey frazep. I just got the Shimano ULCI45500XSB Ultegra CI4 Plus XSB Surf Spinning Reel at a Black Friday sale. It is wrapped and under the tree for my kids to give me for Christmas. It is very light - under 16 oz and holds plenty of braid. I checked out most mentioned in this thread and plenty more and this seems like a great choice (I hope). I will post after I take it out between Christmas and new year.
  3. Was that fish from the surf Capt. Ed?
  4. Excellent response FlatWing. Thanks. Lots of good detail that I was looking for. I will check out the reels and the cast styles that you recommend. I am just doing the Jersey chuck so far. I saw some of Tommy's YouTube videos and tried to incorporate what I saw to loading the rod. I was able to consistently empty the spool of a Stradic 5000 with 50# braid and a 3 oz t-hex. So I definitely need more line capacity. I don't plan on dunking with regularity, but with me it is inevitable. Also I like to wade out to the sandbars at low tide to get where the fish are when it gets too shallow and sunny in close.
  5. If so, what did you think? They look interesting.
  6. Hey guys. I never solved my need to match the right reel with my Tommy Farmer CCP 11' 2-5oz stick. Any news on your hint from March? Any other news out there on spinners with the right combo between distance and dunking? Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the response. What reel do you have on it!
  8. In all my years of fishing, I have never had a Lami. They seem to be held in high esteem. I watched some of John Skinner's videos and Lami seems to be his go to stick. Why do you like them and which blanks do you like best from 6-7 foot boat rods to big sticks for the beach? Thanks!
  9. I'm glad I am not the only tackle addict out there! Nice stuff guys. For the guys who store their plugs in containers, how many store them with the head up like in Sudsy's photos? I have stored them head down, but it does make it harder to see which is which without pulling out a bunch of them. I like the heads up idea. Do you store them heads up in your beach bag too?
  10. I sure don't need one now and can wait. Thanks for your response. Any hints at what's coming? Also I take it the Saragosa was fine 6 days later?
  11. So I tried a VS150.... I wanted to love it, but I hated it. It is very expensive for what you get. I can certainly handle that. However, it does not feel like an expensive reel. It is not smooth. New it is actually resistant to turning. I can handle that and sat with it trying to break in the seals. It doesn't lay line properly. I can handle that. I built the mono backing up in the middle to make the line lay correctly. It is not known for distance due to the way it lays line. I can handle that for the indestructability. I put it on my 8' surf stick and the rotor wailed the knuckle on my middle finger. The rotor turns about 1/2" closer to to rod than any other reel I have ever owned (and that is a lot). This I can't handle. My knuckle is still throbbing 3 days later. Sorry, but I am done with VS. Have you guys dunked your Saragosas?
