  1. We run a youth day on the beach. Teaching knot tying, safety, environmental display, casting. The kids have lunch and get one on one fishing on the beach. Each kid gets a nice nap sack filled with goodies and gets a rod and reel to take home. These kids are from group homes in NJ. We also run a crabbing and fishing day at the Dock Outfitters in Seaside for kids. We teach crabbing and fishing. And each child gets a small goodie bag and a coupon for a hotdog and soda. All supplies ,bait and fishing outfits are supplied to use. This event is open to the public and free. We also run a free fishing Summer Fun Event that runs all summer long. Any youth that brings in a fish or crab to our local tackle shops get a goodie bag of fishing items and is entered into the event. At the end of the summer the largest entry for each species from each of the three tackle shops gets a rod and reel or a crabbing outfit. Our Youth Education Fund also donates to other fishing events for children in our area

  8. A big thank you to all fellow SOLersFor quite a few years now the Berkeley Striper Club has received a generous donation from the Food Fling to our Youth Education Program.I wanted you all to know what we are able to accomplish with this during the year.We were able to host a fishing clinic at the Boy Scout Camporee in Seaside Park for all the campers that wanted to learn surf fishing. We have run many seminars for the kids of Community Treatment Solutions teaching them Gyotaku fish printing, fly tying and environmental stewardship. We run a Youth Day for the kids from the group homes of CTS at Sea Girt National Guard Armory. These kids are from group homes all over New Jersey. They are taught knot tying, fishing safety, casting and are taught the problems with pollution in their environment. After a great lunch we take them on the beach for a day of surf fishing. For many of these kids this is the only time they are exposed to fishing and a day at the beach. I only wish I could share pictures with you but because of their life situations we are not allowed to post detailed pictures of them. Each child leaves the day with a rod and reel and a goodie bag of fishing related items. We also were able to run a fishing and crabbing day at the Dock Outfitters for 30 Kids from the Seaside Park area. Many species of fish were caught and some people even brought crabs home for dinner. The first 20 children got goodie bags and all were treated to a hotdog and soda after the event.A big thank you.Without the generous donations from you and others and the hard work of our members we wouldn't be able to accomplish all of this.
  9. I have a delta mini LA200 wood lathe. It has a MT1 taper in the headstock The mounting plate is 3" and the 4 holes are at 2-5/8 on center I am trying to find a reasonably priced chuck that I can mount on it to chuck up a 1-1/8" delrin rod to turn Can you recommend anything
  10. Once again you guys have gone over the top with your generous donation to the Youth education Fund. You are all heroes to the kids that benefit from your support. They all will have rod and reel outfits to take home Thanks again all
  11. Thanks to all my fellow members for the generous donation to Berkeley Striper Clubs Youth Education Program. Your generous donation will allow us to build our programs. As education fund chairman I will work hard to see that your donation benefits as many kids as we can. With your generous donation we will continue to see that all kids coming through our program has their own rod and reel outfits and know how to use them. Through all our efforts we can insure our fishing community grows for the future. Thanks again Fred
  12. the action needs to be on the slower side. Rods that are two fast aggravate my neck on the casting stroke.
